    Titlewriter help

First off, first post here!! Glad I found this site. Just downloaded this program to give it a try as I hate naming my discs in my changer. I only have one movie right now ripped with DVD Decrypter. When I go to update the volume name, it gives me the following error:

Okay, I tried another one and it did not give an error. Any reason why the first one did? Thanks.

Try to load your bad DVD in PgcEdit, and save it back. I have recently added some basic checks to ensure that the table sizes are good, and to try to fix them if they are wrong.

You can also remove the DVD-Text strings that are already there with the DVD -> Remove DVD-Text Data function. If the problem in in that part, TitleWriter should be happy, and it will let you create new strings.

Anyway, do a backup of your IFOs first, as wrong pointers in the IFOs can be dangerous with any authoring program!

Ditto "ROlZs post"-- Tw wants fully compliant DVD's -- It autofixes a few basic ifo errors but is by no means "comprehensive" -- IfoEdit also has a fix Get Vts Sectors.
On that error Tw will not modify DVD_text or ifo's

Yep, that seemed to work!! Now, if TitleWriter included a Jacket Picture maker, It would win my favorite DVD award!! (really it already has, this saves me so much time with my changer, plus now I can lend someone my disc and not have to rename, would be awesome to do this with the picture as well). Also, my Sony changer also has a spot for the Artist (which I never use) and Genre, is there a way to automatically populate those fields? Thanks for you guys help!!!

I've looked into jacket pictures -- Haven't found global specs anywhere

Bear with me (I have pioneer jukes not sony) but are you refering to the second line on a older sony jukebox (I've heard the newer ones barely see any DVD_Text) if so its in TW (More stuff in the help system)

To Add Second line (Most sony Jukes -- Pioneer Jukes dont support second line dvd text)
            Single Click on VOLUME:
-- New Entry created in content window
            >>Select Movie in pulldown
            >>edit as normal

You could try playing with creating new entries with various subcodes and see what comes up (I'd suggest a DVD-RW) -- Others with a Sony juke might be interested

Okay, will try to mess around with it by the weekend. I have a newer sony changer with hdmi upconversion. It has 3 lines you can put info in. The first it the title and if the dvd text auto populates this, you cannot change it in the changer. The second is artist, which can be anything. The third is Genre and the changer has a list of things to choose from. If you could autopopulate, I would think it would have to be one of the options available, but what do I know, lol. The only thing I could find on Jacket pic is:

Probably stored as a simple integer in the changer to save memory-- DVD_Text doesn't apply in that case

I included the "code" for artist -- whether sony actually reads it is another thing

As to Jackets -- tested that method (and myriad others) they seem to only work on some players sometimes. I don't think anyone (outside of the studios) really has taken the time to crack the description and coding of those files.

I can tell you a disc that uses it perfectly. Dr. Zhivago. I bought it for my mother and put it in my changer and both discs have the same picture. Autopopulates the little screen capture on the changer and when you pause or stop the disc, it fills the screen. It would be nice to figure it out. I think the dvd program from Apple makes them (I think I read that somewhere). I have been a little under the weather, so have not gotten a chance to write some discs. I will tonight and let you know what I find. Thanks.

Okay, tried creating the second line by the above method (selecting Movie in pulldown under VOLUME) and it did not pick it up. But it did pick up the first line. I am trying the same method but using Comments from the drop down. Probably will not work. Btw, My changer is a Sony DVP-CX995V. What are the other lines in Titlewriter for (the ones below VOLUME)?

Artist did not work either. Here are some pics of the Sony's menus, maybe they will give you some insight. It may be that it only supports one line. Also, along the lines of your observations on the Genre, i thought it may be in hex, but there are more than 15 choices (14 for movies and 13 for cd's).

The Entries following VOLUME pertain to the overall dvd disc

subsections of the disc (described in the ifo's) are called title play maps (and may be "named") (there may be multiple Title Play Maps covering the same areas of the disc)
within the title play maps certain things may be coded Chapter names, artist info etc (Click on a Title entry -- Pick the type fill in the text (some options are macros)) when those things are encountered (chapter change, cell change etc) dvd_text may/will be changed

And of course during (for example) chapter playback other things can be named (Individual cells, sub artists (ad nauseam) can be named)

Of course all of this is dependent on what the hardware will actually support

heres a text excerpt from a dvd (I use this general layout all the time for my pioneer)

                          VOLUME
                          NAME: DevilWearsPrada
                          TITLE
                          Name: Devil Wears Prada
                          CHAPTER:
                          Name: Movie Starts
                          CHAPTER:
                          Name: Chapter 2
                          CHAPTER:
                          Name: Chapter 3
                          CHAPTER:
                          Name: Chapter 4

                          ....

                          CHAPTER:
                          Name: End Credits

In this case my (Pioneer) will display the Volume name and during Title 1 playback (the movie) then will scroll the text Chapter nn then the TITLE name then the VOLUME name as the chapters change and alter internal ifo screens accordingly

In another forum I've heard bitching that Sonys 995 only reads the first Volume name from the text area - as opposed to the 885 which reads more

No One has dropped me an Ifo that plays in the 995 showing more dvd_text being displayed or picked up by the player

On jackets -- Yes there are many "algorithms" to create Jacket_p files from say a bitmap-- all different in their internal structure (At the hex level) I just haven't taken the time (considerable) to determine the fundamentals (as I did for DVD_Text) that will be "compliant" with any hardware

There is always Christmas Break, lol. Thanks again for this program. This alone will help me, especially since if you let someone borrow the disc, all the things you manually put in go away when you return the disc to the changer. I will play around with the other settings in it as well. We need a hacker to somehow break into the 995 and its firmware and see how it ticks. I wish I was smart enuf.
