MPeg4 to avi

I have a good mpeg4 movie that I am trying to convert to avi format so i can watch it on my dvd player(with divx) ... any good program out there that can convert it without hampering the quality significantly? thanks

you mean mp4?

if it's MPEG4 ASP you could extract and mux to avi with YAMB. if not, re-encode with something like mediacoder, avidemux or avisynth/virtualdub
