Firmware Updates For Blu-Ray & HD DVD Players

I read an article the other day on the procedures to upgrade the firmware on your Blu-Ray or HD DVD player.

If you have a dial-up connection forget it, you can't update your firmware at all, mandatory to have a high speed internet connection to upgrade.

You can also, get hold of the maker of the DVD player to send you a CD/DVD disk for the firmware upgrade, and by the way there is a free or charge for the firmware upgrades on CD/DVD.

I am thinking its a combination of firmware and software updates for the file to be so large as a standard dial-up can not handle the large file.
Also, what type of internet connection on the unit? RJ45 telephone jacks?

I know for Comcast digital TV their DVD recorder has RJ45 telephone jacks on the unit for connection to a standard telephone line. They (Comcast) claims it for software/firmware updates, billing, and pay-per-view movies.
