    Can't change book type

I got a new Sony DRX-830U (Benq) external DVD multi burner. For some reason ImgBurn won't let me change the book type from DVD+R DL to DVD-Rom. It says "current setting unknown (failed)" under the Benq book type change tab. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm using ImgBurn 2.1.0.0. I've never seen this problem before until I upgraded to this drive. Thanks!

      Perhaps it's a Samsung burner...

This LG / samsung drive problem will be remedied at the next release of Imgburn.... It will auto bookset these drives to DVD-Rom when using DVD+R media.

Are you saying there's nothing I can do at this time to bookset the burn to DVD-Rom? Thanks!

Looks like it's a Samsung as I managed to change the book type under the Samsung tab.

BTW, why is it burning so slowly at only 2.5x? It took 40 mins to burn a Verbatim +R DL. I set the burn speed at max and it doesn't even give higher speed a try.

            Thanks!

if you stick the burned disk back in the drive imgburn will show a window/log
              copy and paste that

To add to my above post ( clarify ) Samsung drives with ID ( TSST Corp ) and LG drives with ID ( HL- DT-ST ) will automatically by default bitset +R, +RW, +R DL to DVD Rom upon the next release of Imgburn.
                Oils well thats ends well.

assuming that g is another external drive you are lucky to get any burn to work, your firmware only supports 2.4x burning with those verbs

best not to push usb too fast anyway

looks like the older sony had some issues with the max setting

My older Sony 820U external (Benq) burner burns much faster at 5-6x without any problem on the same USB setup.

                        Average Write Rate: 4,231 KB/s (3.1x)
                        something slows it down

unless sony puts out a new firmware there's not much you can do for speeding up the burn with the new drive

Is permanent bitsetting a problem with both these drives ? I have the samsung which I was going to return because of this issue and get an LG.If the new imburn version will auto set this then that would solve things

The drives just don't seem to support it.

                            Bit of a shame really

OEM's of the LG and Samsung drives will not benefit from auto bitsetting in the next imgburn. The Device String (name) must match exactly what I've coded for.

EDIT: correction, I've just improved it so the user can add their own values of acceptable 'device names' for use by the auto book type code.
i.e. you'd add something like 'SONY DVD RW DRU-830A' to the registry key for Samsung drives - and yes, this is a manual process although I could just host a reg file with the well known ones.

Thanks for all the help, I also posted in the imgburn forums and recieved
some great help .Thats great news and I look forward to the next version of imgburn.

btw:my oem drive in Canada seems to use the same firmware auto update as the retail drives.device name is(TSSTCORP CD/DVDW SH-S182) if that helps. Is it difficult to code a input dialog in imgburn which would ID the drive that this setting should apply to ?

Thanks for all your great work !!
