    asf converter

I'm trying to find a program that converts mpeg-4 with asf... it's what windows media center records video in. can anyone send me a link to a program that will work with.asf? I've tried quite a few and had no luck so far.

    Welcome to the forum

    that converts mpeg-4 with asf
To what? Virtualdub-Mpeg2 should do the trick for AVI.

Virtual Dub has an error message that says "microsoft owns us patent #6,041,345 on the ASF file format, preventing third-party applications from extracting data from asf files. asf file format support was removed as of V1.3d at the request of Microsoft and to avoid patent claims, and as such VirtualSub no longer supports ASF. Please do not ask for versions that do.

"VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable."
I have no idea what this means.

The captured content is technically in the ASF container, but it is usually referred to as DVR-MS. It does not look to be MPEG4, but MPEG2 from a digital TV broadcast. Use DVRMSToolbox to mux to MPEG PS. After processing you should be able to use Virtualdub-Mpeg2 as normal or for something easier, AutoGK
