Is there a tool for volume normalization in MPEG video files?

Do you know about such software?

My DVD authoring software, uLead DVD Movie Factory, can normalize audio as it renders. Is that what you mean?

No, I mean a tool that could automatically
separate the audio part of a file,
adjust volume to a predefined level,
join the result with the video part of a file (without reencoding video!).

The audio will need to be re-encoded to be normalized in most cases. Not aware of a tool that can do it automatically, but use ProjectX to demux, BeLight or foobar2k to re-encode/normalize then ImagoMPEG Muxer to mux to MPEG PS.

Or TMPGEnc to demux/remux, then BeSweet to convert mp2 to wav, then back. That's what I do.

My bad. Just remembered Avidemux can do it in a single step. Set video to copy mode, set audio to AC3/MP2/whatever, set gain via filters and output to MPEG PS.

Tnanks, but Avidemux isn't exactly what I asked about. E.g. it can make all samples sound 3 db lower and I would like it to make the highest sample sound 3db and all the rest of samples change proportionally.

Then you'll want something that supports ReplayGain, like foobar2k. Demux the audio with Avidemux, add it to the playlist and scan it. Re-encode and make sure to enable ReplyGain processing. Mux with Avidemux.

For AC3 input/output in foobar, get the foo_ac3 plugin and a cli AC3 encoder such as Aften, respectively.
