I second the motion also, I will continue to be a permanent fixture. But there will be times when there will be several days in between being on the forum.

        Lets be honest here..

There is still quite a bit of info for many different things here on this forum
but to stay "frosty and updated" on the latest tools for
which MANY OF US came here for originally,
we will have to look elsewhere for certain info..

that's not the same as abandon ship..
more like cheating on your wife now/then..
Good web site still for many other tech stuff
As members, we can help ourselves by not posting any other info sites if someone asks..
Let people find them on there own. I did and am sure many have also.
No sense in contributing to another massacre..

It almost reeks of the Army- McCarthy communist witch hunts back in the 50;s..
Everyone was afraid to mention certain words or phrases for fear of jail.
Lt Columbo just closed a post because a :backing up question was asked.
Not blaming him. He is just protecting the site,,
but see what it has come down to?
that's no way to help or share but I undertand it's not my neck on the line.

            Lawyers

Since we can't have a Ripping/Decrypting discussion - can we open up a lawyer joke forum?

Think Sony will ever figure out they are throwing away more money on lawyers and Arcoss technicians than they will ever collect back in increased sales as a result of whatever good they think all this crap is doing?

It is unfortunate that free speech is apparently banned in the country where this forum site resides. It used to be a very informative and fun place to learn and share. RIP.

Rich86 - It seems you think free speech is banned in Australia. It is not (well, you can not incite criminal behaviour or libel anyone but other than that, you can go for your life).

However, you are confusing this forum with a country and its rights. A better analogy is that a forum is someone's house (i.e. it is owned by somebody - it is their asset). In this case, it is admin's house. We need to respect his wishes in his house as we would in yours. If he says, "please don't talk about such and such in my house, otherwise it will land me in hot water", do we not respect that he has a right to control what goes on in his own asset (his house/his forum)? Of course, we do!

Free speech is not dead in Australia or the US or wherever. But, we must accede to the wishes of the owner of the house (or he shows you the door).

In summary, we have no "inalienable right" on a forum to say anything (there's no 1st amendment to the rules!). OTOH, we have the responsibility to do what the forum owner wants (and sets out in the forum rules). If he says, no ripping/backup discussions, then that's it. It's his board (house). Does that stop you from saying what you like outside his house (i.e. freedom of speech)? Not at all. Essentially, the forum owner is telling you "say what you like outside of my house but while you're here, please respect my wishes".

Having said all that, it is very sad that this has happened. We hope you can bear with us as we move the forum in new directions. Certain things in respect of DVDs are still allowed - AFAIK, authoring & editing, burning, media, Nero Recode and conversion/encoding are not "blacklisted". So stick around - maybe the ride will be fun.

              Thanks for your comments.

              Regards

You interpreted my comments as being criticism of the forum Admin.
I never suggested that - and that is not the case.
I appreciate and respect the forum Admin's decision not to fight against whomever has threatened him for whatever reason.
But it doesn't lessen the facts of the matter - the forum is being censored, even to the point where the members of the forum are not even permitted to know any of the details about who or why is causing this.
It's sad, unfortunate and a bit frustrating.

I agree 100% with Blu and understand .

What annoys and sometimes scares me is that what has happened to this board is only part of the bigger picture which is goverment and corps controling, censoring, forcing, pushing around the common man..

Even Political correctiveness has gotten way beyound it's original intentions to the point of out of control.[ witness as I said earlier about no merry chritmas because we may offend.
I am Catholic and if a Jewish person wishes me Happy Honnaka I say happy hoildays back.
Offended? that;s bull.. no one actually goes home crying because someone wished you a christmas or saw it posted in a dept . store...
It basically ends up that the person gets his/her 5 minutes of fame bitching about it and what gauls me is that our goverment can;t just say, Chill out people. no one called you a %^&*&^%%. It's just someone being nice or courtious so NO. we are not going to ban that or the word God because at the end of the day, it's probably the least and smallest problem you will go thru any given day.
You are making an issue out of it, hense an issue gives birth..
so relax and take care of yourself and family because that's important..
you should have enough to do and worry about each day of your life without having to make PC another task to add..

the powers to be here at DD are not controling our lives.
goverment and big money started it 5-6 yrs ago and we have ourselves to blame because we let them tell us what, where and how and I think it will only get worse as time goes on..
when money is the bottom line, personal freedoms go to the dogs because the mighty $ is hands down, the most influential and important element on earth.
                    [next to Philly cheese steaks]...
gotta have a sense of humor... lightens the burden of life a little bit..

so what happens to peoples power?
heard this phrase lately? "If we go down, at least we go down fighting!"
Not knowing why was the hardest thing but we should understand the wishes of the webmaster. we are previleged to be here and that is that. Lets not forget though that the right of an owner is not absolute as suggested by Blu, its debatable. It's a two way street. Digg.com learned that lesson in a matter of hours. Transparency is what is needed not secrecy. Please don't misunderstood what I am saying as this was just a general comment.

your disclaimer about "being misunderstood" says it all.
We never had to clarify things like that before and that is exactly my point..
Speak your mind is not a given anymore thanks to corp witch hunters..

1952 McCarthy hearings where hollywood celebs were fearfull of being labeled Commies if they spoke there mind concerning freedom of choice.
                          same deal today.
no one wants to be exposed in any way for being involved in dvd backups..
Yes I know it's illegal but so are drugs, child porn and whatever.
copying dvd's is far worse if you add up all the news coverage and Lawyers bills it consumes..

                          Jesus H..........
there's more news about illegal dvd activity this past month than the Virginia massacre..
ok.. I've shot my mouth off enough this week..
                          someone else take over..
I;m losing the desire to go on anymore..

                          good luck DD.
What I have learned this past year on these forums for "free" has been priceless...
people really think I'm a computer whiz thanks to ya'll..

Not sure I'm with you petsburg. Let's continue the analogy of a house.

I do something you don't want me to in your house. You say, "please don't - doing that is not good for me" (paraphrasing admin). I ask "why; I need tranparency to understand why I should stop, not secrecy". You say, "I don't have to tell you but I have said before that not doing it ensures the survival of my house" (paraphrasing admin again).

I would submit you have told me enough.

I would also disagree about the rights of you as an owner being absolute. You can tell me to get the hell outa your house, especially if you feel I am continually and deliberately doing something you don't want me to do. Or you can continue to ask me to respect your wishes, which I am sure I would.

And maybe you don't wanna go down fighting, but as admin has said, stay standing and live to fight another day. That's is your personal choice and I respect that - as I respect digg.com's choice.

                            Regards

Regarding DVD ripping and my membership in this forum

I have watched the recent events and have come to the conclusion that I wish to request being removed as a member or this forum. I joined the forum with the understanding I could freely trade thoughts on backing up the DVD's I have purchased. As this is no longer the case I would like to wish everyone here the best of luck and bid you a fond farewell.
