Dual Layer +R (verbatim) burning question

Hi

I managed to convert a wedding that was on 2 vhs cassettes (5hr 10mins). I still have the raw DVI file and I made a VideoTS and a ISO (nrg) of the video so that i had different
options available to edit and burn.

Now

I have some Verbatim DVD+R DL discs and I have in the past used these discs to burn Data Discs (using dvd-rom bitsetting option in Nero) very sucessfully

Now for the DVD Video option i have been told its different because you need to have or create a 'layer break' so that your house dvd player will read it sucessfully.
I was given a option to use ImgBurn. but that came up with the message ' no cell or layer break have been found' on both the VTS and ISO files on my HDand in order to create one looked very complicated.
Besides i use Nero, and i was wondering if there is a way round this... I did in the past use a DVD-R (verbatim) but that was unsucessfull.

I'm going to be using Verbatim DVD+R DL

1) Should I just burn the VTS folder (using Nero video dvd option and bitsetting option) and hope for the best.

2) use a 4.5gb DVD (instead of DL DVD) as some ppl have said you can put 2 hrs of dvd quality but 6 hrs of vhs quality i don't know if this is true

3) burn the nrg ISO (setting the bitsetting)


I would love to get this Wedding Movie on to 1 dvd instead of 2 and any help would be appreaciate

2. You need to split a cell so a layer break cell can be made - essentially, split your cell around the middle of the DVD project. Not sure if ImgBurn gives you a clue as to where to split the cell. But VobBlanker can do it easily - guide on site.

So follow this step-by-step...does it create a new VideoTS folder with all the Vob files in it (8.5gb) and then i burn it with Nero... Also how do i test if the Layer Break has work.. before burning (verb +DL are really expensive)... Also do i have to add a chapter, can it not just flow through after layer break

Sorry for the incovience as i'm in Retail Mangement and i'm really simple when it comes to Computers, takes me all afternoon to switch the bloody thing on

Yes, that's the guide. If you tick "Use input folder" everything will be done in the original folder with a backup folder created underneath it (which ImgBurn will ignore). You don't have to add a chapter, but if you have a menu, certainly do not, as it will screw up the menu. If no menu is present, add a chapter as well as a cell, it matters not.

Remember, you can't break anything as you have your backup folder. As well, ensure multiple backup folders is selected in the More Options section.

I used to advise in retail management Don't worry, simple shopkeepers aren't that simple.

so what would happen, would there be a slight pause when it gets to the layer break, and do i use the created IFO to burn with Nero and how

So, split the cell at an appropriate point (use the "mark" button in conjunction with the slider, noting the sector number will be in range), tick OK, and get back to the main GUI and click Process. Wait till it finishes and burn with ImgBurn. Ner0 is a total waste of space.

If you don't wanna pause at the layer break, in ImgBurn, check seamless layer break - see the guides on the ImgBurn Forum.

Once done I tryed burning the new VoblankerVideoTS in Imgburn Build mode and guess what, when i press the calculater i get
no cell or layer break have been found

Did ImgBurn give you a clue where to split?

Unbelievably, the movie was originally authored as one long cell!!!!! Whatever software authored this DVD is VERY basic if it can't make chapter points. This is the source of your problem.

Right now, it is totally hit and miss - you need to have a break which enables more data to be on (the outside) layer 0 AND for the break to be on an ECC boundary (sector divisible by 16).

Since you have no menu, the easiest here is to split say 32 times (this is the max VobBlanker can do in one go), selecting add program and chapter on each. It will also give you chapters in your wedding video, something you might like to have. So, try to split every 8 minutes or so.

If that doesn't work, try splitting those cells around the middle of the compilation again - into sections of 4 (or even 2) minutes each (it's better to have smaller chapters around the break - this gives you more chance of finding a correct position).

Thanks for the help again

I used the 2000 edition of VideoWave to transfer movie from VHS to PC (GS200EB as pass thru) then use Nero to encode the full-length DVI (5hrs 10min) to a size to fit onto DVD+R DL (videoTS folder)..

OK so...

Go back to the CELL SPLIT MODE

and back to the middle of the movie (same position 2:45:44, and instead of doing 1 cell split do 32 (one after another) and TICK 'Add program' 'Add chapter'

So that when new produced VoblankerTS folder has 32 chances of getting a cell break right with IMGBURN....SO what does that mean when you add a chapter or program, does a menu appear on the screen at the layer break point to tell you to press the remote key to continue..

No. What I was suggesting was to make 32 chapters, equally spaced on the disk. And if that doesn't work, then around the middle of the disk (cells 15-18 say), make a few more chapters (by splitting each of the mid cells into 2 cells each).

Each time you press "Mark" in VobBlanker, you add a split point. Having add program/add chapter ticked is not a bad thing in this case as you have no menu, so yes, tick it. You might consider ticking "Use Input Folder" on the main GUI, too - this keeps everything neatly in one folder. But also click "More" and ensure both bottom left boxes are ticked under "Backup folder". This way when you do multiple backups, everything is preserved.

I know Ner0 is a piece of sh1t, but I can't believe it didn't allow you to add chapters - normally these all-in-one progs offer something like 5 minute chapters or even manual chapter selection points (which is better since you can have a chapter at a naturally occurring scene change).

Hi
I've been away for 2 weeks down south and did'nt get chance to try IMGBURN till today
Ok first thing is that my original VideoTS has the first spilt already done (cells in title box) so i could'nt start from scratch
So what i did was put 16 splits in the first part of the video and 16 cell splits in the second part of the video
after wards i went into IMGBURN and again i get the same error no cell or layer break have been found

So i went into Voblanker again to try and split cells around the middle of the movie, but now my VideoTS folder has 34 splits.

I'm a little lost... do i split each of the 34 segments into individual 34 times or do i select some cells to split further and which ones... or shall i make a new VideoTS folder (from my 64 Gb DVI file) and start again as this was my orginal....
Is there another way of of producing a Layer Break with a program as I still have my orginal 5hrs (64gb) DVI file on my External HD, as i feel I'm never gonna hit a layer break at this rate.

You're doing fine. It's a very full disk, that's all.

Split cell 17 into 10 equal sized cells. Should do the trick.

Here's something for you to work with:

1. A DL disk has 8152 Mb.
2. More than half the data needs to be on the first layer (layer 0)
3. Your project is 7958 Mb

So - the break can't be with a cell that has more than 4076 Mb (and even this is pushing it way to the edge) but must be at a point higher than 3979 Mb.

Now cell 16 ends at 3436 Mb and cell 17 at 4290 Mb. So, we need to split cell 17 so that it has a break point higher than 3979 Mb (cumulative) but less than 4076 Mb (cum). I hope this makes sense.

Whether you add programs or chapters around this next set of splits is up to you. The reason I suggested split cell 17 into 10 equal cells was that it works (the split will be at 4034 Mb = 3436 + 7 x 85.4). Of course, it doesn't need 10 equal sized cells, just a split at the right position.

The above analysis assumes there are no other files on the disk.

I've tryed splitting Cell 17 but i keep getting 'unable to split at sector=0
along the entire section i cant mark anywhere

Do i just split the entire timeline into 10 or just the blue highlighted section

i've enclosed another pic.

Also whats the short blue line in the timeline, is that the layer break

It makes no sense to split at sector 0 of the cell (that is the start). So move the slider at the top left along 85.4Mb (= 43,700 sectors) and click mark. Then another 43,700 sectors, etc. Do this until cell 17 has been split in 10 and follow the instruction in my previous post.

The short blue line is a remnant from the AVI2DVD program. Don't worry about it.

YES!!! I got it working.... I spilt Cell 17, 10 times at 43,700 intervals at sector (rel) and went into IMGBURN.
So from the photo you can see i have a Average layer Break... Should I burn or should I go back to Cell 17 and do another 10 splits... If so What intervals should i use again.
