Playback Too Fast

My system:

Duron 900
192MB RAM
ATI Rage Mobility 8MB
Windows 98SE
DivX 4.02 Codec

Whenever I play a divx movie the playback is way too fast, almost like fast forwarding. I have tried GDivX, BS Player, and Windows Media 6.4. The DivX 4.02 codec is the only codec that will not crash my machine as well. I have tried the DivX 4.12 and DivX 5.02 codecs, they play the movie fine for about 30 seconds then my computer crashes and hangs up on the restart. Can anyone help?

concerning the reboots: install latest chipset-driver (via 4in1 for example).

then install a codec page like the one from tsunami (can be found on my page) or nimo.
