    My DVD can't read!

Hi, I have just bought a Fujitsu Siemens SCALEO C with which can't read DVD-discs.

CD-Roms are working but not the DVDs. It's really killing me and I can't find
    an answer to why.

    My DVD-Drive is a HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GSA-4164B!

    Please help me!

I've had that same problem. I bought a Freecom DVD burner years ago and after about a year of use it couldn't read or write DVD's. CD's and CD-ROM's were fine.

When I asked Freecom about this they told me to install Firmware but you have to be careful you get the correct one otherwise you can mess your drivers up and it's important you install Firmware correctly. That part you'll have to ask the experts because I had problems installing my Firmware some short time ago when I had major problems with another DVD burner. With the installing, I think it requires a flash method that has to be done correctly and if I remember correctly, I think you have to disable certain software at the same time to avoid creating problems. As I said, the experts know more on this because I had to ask a lot on this subject either early this year or late last year.

      Darren.

It doesnt matter which type of DVDs it can't play any of them.

It cant even read the DVD you get if you want to reainstall the whole computer, and thats weird!

                          the drive may be dying

you could upgrade the firmware(pain, you have to make a bootable cd)

or use imgburn/tools to remove the sonic filter?

test another dvd drive in your computer?

Okay, how do I correctly upgrade my firmware, and if that doesn't work how do I remove the so called sonic filter?

download imgburn(from link here in the forum)

under tools there will be an option to remove filter driver

                              reboot

                              download 103 from this link

check the box in german so the software will download
probably says flash at your own risk--duh!

it will be a bootable iso file that you burn to cd with imgburn(burn mode and point it to the iso)
insert a blank cd of course

you will have to set your computer to boot to the cd/dvd drive etc

don't blame me, I didn't build the computer
