Using DVD Shrink to set up Library in Windows Media Centre

Hi guys

Appologies new to this site and this sort of thing, hoping someone can give me the answers I need.
I am looking to transfer all my DVD's (some 600+) to an external harddrive for use in Windows Media Centre. I have tried to use DVD Shrink but the Media Centre does not recognise the format that was backed up to the hard drive.
Can anyone point me in the right direction of creating a libaray of films I can watch from the hard drive with some sort of search facility using either the film name or the actors or type of film.
