and here intel is getting ready to release 45nm cpu's, talk about being behind in technology? I had always though consoles more leading edge?
The Xbox 360 processor is an IBM Xenon with 3 cores. Don't know why Microsoft didn't go with an Intel chip, or at least an AMD one, considering it already uses AMD's ATI chipset for the GPU. I would say Microsoft would have avoided all the red rings of death problem if they had relied on the experience of Intel/AMD CPU.
For me, I might serious consider replacing my current Xbox 360 with a new one once the new CPU and heatsink is available to all retail models, plus HDMI output.
