    Stats:

For the week ending 9th November 2013, here are the stats:

    Percentage of revenue:
    Blu-ray vs DVD: 29.78% vs 70.22%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $37.21 million
DVD sales total spending: $87.74 million

    These stats available from here:

    Home Media Magazine

    Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue was down compared to last week's highs, with DVD revenue holding firm to ensure Blu-ray revenue dropped below 30%. A couple of new releases were available this week, but none were popular enough to unseat Monster University from the top spot.

White House Down ended up being the best of the new releases, coming in a close second to Monster University. A little bit back in 3rd place was Grown Ups 2, with the Walmart Blu-ray exclusive double pack of both the original and the sequel was in 7th place.

The extended edition of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was also released, and it earned a 4th place finish.

Another Walmart exclusive double-pack, White House Down/2012, was in 10th place.

There were a couple of other new releases that finished outside of the top 10. Parkland finished in 14th, while Twilight Forever: The Complete Saga was in 18th. In 20th place was another Walmart Blu-ray exclusive, The Hunters.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
    1. Monster University
    2. White House Down
    3. Grown Ups 2
    4. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
    5. *The Little Mermaid
    6. Pacific Rim
    7. *Grown Ups Double Feature
    8. R.I.P.D.
    9. The Heat
    10. *White House Down/2012

    Blu-ray Share:

Of the new releases, and quite expectedly, the extended edition of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey had the BD sales share. 64.49% of all discs sold for the title contained the Blu-ray edition of the film.

The next best performer, in terms of BD sales share, was Twilight Forever: The Complete Saga with 43.45%.

The week's best selling new release, White House Down, managed 40.90%. Parkland managed 33.83%.

The week's second best selling new release, Grown Ups 2, managed 30.90%.

And finally, The Hunters had a BD sales share of 29%, just outside of the BD sales share top 20.

Of the new releases, the only one available on Blu-ray 3D was The Hobbit, with 11% of all sold copies containing the 3D version of the film.

      Stats:

For the week ending 16th November 2013, here are the stats:

      Percentage of revenue:
      Blu-ray vs DVD: 36.89% vs 63.11%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $55.31 million
DVD sales total spending: $94.62 million

      These stats available from here:

      Home Media Magazine

      Top 10:

The release of the A-list Man of Steel helped Blu-ray market share to records its 3rd highest result in 2013, and helped Blu-ray revenue break the $50m barrier for the first time since March.

Man of Steel was clearly the best selling new release of the week, which also included Turbo, selling just over a quarter as many copies as the latest Superman movie.

None of the other new releases sold enough copies to make the Blu-ray top 10. Dexter: The Final Season finished in 13th place, while Ip Man: The Final Fight was in 16th.

But the only title that mattered was Man of Steel, really.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
      1. Man of Steel
      2. Turbo
      3. Monster University
      4. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
      5. *The Little Mermaid
      6. White House Down
      7. Grown Ups 2
      8. Pacific Rim
      9. The Heat
      10. Iron Man 3

      Blu-ray Share:

Part of the reason why Blu-ray did so well this week was due to Man of Steel's Blu-ray performance. 68.15% of all Man of Steel disc packages sold contained the Blu-ray edition of the film. That's more than 2 out of every 3 sold!

Turbo's 43.02%, while still a good result, wasn't as spectacular.

Ip Man: The Final Fight managed 32.89%, while Dexter: The Final Season had 21%.

Both Man of Steel and Turbo were also available on Blu-ray 3D, with the 3D version of the Superman flick managing to be 10.70% of all discs sales, compared to 4.77% for Turbo.

Despite the great performances this week, Blu-ray revenue was only up slightly compared to the same week last year due to the release of the A-list 'Brave' this time last year, although DVD revenue took a bit of a fall as Man of Steel did less well on DVD than Brave.

Blu-ray sales increased by $0.49m (up 0.9%), while DVD sales decreased by $21.48m (down 18.5%) producing an overall loss of $20.99 million in combined revenue.

Blu-ray's market share grew from 32.07% to 36.89%.

        Stats:

For the week ending 23rd November 2013, here are the stats:

        Percentage of revenue:
        Blu-ray vs DVD: 32.37% vs 67.63%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $50.53 million
DVD sales total spending: $105.57 million

        Top 10:

Another week in which weekly Blu-ray revenue was over $50m, with Disney's Planes being the best selling title on both DVD and Blu-ray.

Twice as many copies of Planes were sold compared to the second placed, and also newly released We're the Millers, just managing to edge ahead of last week's best seller, Man of Steel.

As for the other new releases for the week, 2 Guns finished in 4th place; The World's End finished in 7th place; and outside of the top 10, The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea & The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning 2-Movie Collection came in at 14th, and Paranoia managed an 18th placed finish.

The Black Friday stats should be in next week, and so expect a bumper result for both DVD and Blu-ray.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
        1. Planes
        2. We're the Millers
        3. Man of Steel
        4. 2 Guns
        5. Turbo
        6. Monster University
        7. The World's End
        8. *The Little Mermaid
        9. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
        10. The Hunger Games

        Blu-ray Share:

Man of Steel continues to be the best performer in terms of BD sales share, with 60.37% of all disc packages sold containing the Blu-ray edition of the film.

But for this week's new releases, The World's End did the best, with 60%. Planes was next with 44%. 2 Guns managed 40%; The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea & The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning 2-Movie Collection got 40%; and We're the Millers managed 36%.

Planes was the only new release to be released on Blu-ray 3D, and the Blu-ray 3D edition accounted for 4.42% of all disc sales.

        DVD: $280.03 million
A really unfair and rather pointless comparison this week, as Black Friday fell a week earlier last year, and so we're comparing the best (of last year) with just a normal week of this year. The only thing that grew was Blu-ray market share, which is expected due to the higher than normal DVD sales experienced during Black Friday.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $59.32m (down 54%), while DVD sales decreased by $174.46m (down 62.3%) producing an overall loss of $233.78 million in combined revenue.

          Stats:

For the week ending 30th November 2013, here are the stats:

          Percentage of revenue:
          Blu-ray vs DVD: 32.01% vs 67.99%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $119.15 million
DVD sales total spending: $253.10 million

          These stats available from here:

          Home Media Magazine

          Top 10:

It's Black Friday week yet again, the busiest week of the year for home video, and the results didn't disappoint. Blu-ray weekly sales broke a new record, beating the previous record set in December 2012 by nearly $3.5m. In terms of Blu-ray market share, while no all-time records were broken there, this was definitely the best Black Friday for Blu-ray compared to DVD ever.

Typical for this type of sales weeks, new releases were thin on the ground, as discounted titles (ie. older ones) are the ones that are in the spotlight this week. Regardless, there was a single new release, Red 2, although it only came in second on the Blu-ray top 20 charts.

As customary with BF weeks, it's always interesting to compare this one to the previous one to gauge the performance on Blu-ray and DVD over the last year. Blu-ray managed a 8.5% increase over the previous year, or $9.3 million in real dollar terms. Not as impressive as the $21.09 million growth from BF 2011 to 2012 though, but growth will slow as Blu-ray becomes more mainstream (and there is less room to grow). DVD's decline was also slightly bigger than the year before, at 9.6% or $26.93 million (compared to $21.06 million from BF 2011 to 2012).

Total revenue fell $17.63 million from BF 12 to this year's BF sales, falling 4.5%. The caliber of recently released titles has a lot to say in terms of weekly revenue, so the comparison and the resultant decline in revenue isn't really indicative of much. Suffice to say that Blu-ray is still growing healthily, and that DVD continues a steady, but slower decline (due to the increasing penetration of Blu-ray, but also digital streaming and downloads).

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
          1. Monster University
          2. Red 2
          3. Planes
          4. Star Trek Into Darkness
          5. Pacific Rim
          6. World War Z
          7. *The Little Mermaid
          8. Turbo
          9. The Croods
          10. The Dark Knight Rises

          Blu-ray Share:

Red 2 grabbed a 39.97% BD sales share, which means that 39.97% of all packages sold for the film contained the Blu-ray edition (so including Blu-ray only editions, as well as combos). Red 2 was not released on Blu-ray 3D.

Blu-ray's market share grew steadily compared to the last few BF sales. BF week in 2011 recorded an overall Blu-ray market share of 22.77%, and this became 28.18% a year later. This year's 32.01% continues the trend.

Another unfair comparison, but in favor of this week's results unlike last week's comparison.

Blu-ray sales increased by $54.32m (up 83.8%), while DVD sales increased by $99.33m (up 64.6%) producing an overall gain of $153.65 million in combined revenue.

Blu-ray sales total spending: $78.94 million

            Top 10:

It's the week after Black Friday, and with Cyber Monday still helping to drive movie sales, both Blu-ray and DVD revenue remained high, even if it fell dramatically compared to the previous week.

And we also have a few new releases. The best selling title of the week was The Wolverine, easily outselling The Smurfs 2 in second place.

A few places back in 4th place was another new release, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

And that was it for new releases, not unexpected given that studios prefer to avoid the special sales events when it comes to their new titles, not wanting the sale of budget titles to detract from the top releases.

Overall speaking, Blu-ray revenue was still the second highest result this year, with Blu-ray market share rising compared to last week.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
            1. The Wolverine
            2. The Smurfs 2
            3. Star Trek Into Darkness
            4. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones
            5. Man of Steel
            6. Planes
            7. Red 2
            8. Monster University
            9. Pacific Rim
            10. World War Z

            Blu-ray Share:

Of the new releases, The Wolverine had the best BD sales share, with 56.21% of all disc packages sold containing the Blu-ray version of the film.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones was less popular on Blu-ray, but still earned a respectable 43.79%. The Smurfs 2 had 41.29%.

Both The Wolverine and The Smurfs 2 were also available on Blu-ray 3D, with the former having gotten a BD3D sales share of 13.97%, compared to The Smurfs 2's 4.04%.

              Top 10:

Two huge A-list releases powered this week's fantastic results, for both Blu-ray and DVD. Blu-ray revenue broke a new record, beating even Black Friday week, while DVD revenue surged above $200 million for only the second time this year.

The two titles responsible were Despicable Me 2 and Fast & Furious 6 in a somewhat distant second place. The two films together managed to break over $600 million at the box office, and this is how this week's fantastic results can be explained.

But that was it in terms of new releases though - certainly a week that is more about quality than about quantity.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
              1. Despicable Me 2
              2. Fast & Furious 6
              3. The Wolverine
              4. Man of Steel
              5. Turbo
              6. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
              7. Monster University
              8. Star Trek Into Darkness
              9. Despicable Me
              10. Planes

              Blu-ray Share:

Both new releases did well on Blu-ray, selling more copies that included the BD version of the film than the DVD-only edition(s). Despicable Me 2 managed a BD sales share of 56.38%, compared to 54.61% for Fast & Furious 6.

Both helped to make this week the joint best week for Blu-ray sales share for 2013, matching exactly the week that The Hobbit (theatrical cut) was first released.

Despicable Me 2 was also available on Blu-ray 3D, but it only counted for 4.04% of all editions sold.

                Top 10:

Plenty of new releases this week, which combined to allow Blu-ray revenue to stay near last week's record results, but also helped to push DVD spending up to a high for this year.

While the new releases didn't manage to unseat Despicable Me 2 and Fast & Furious 6 from the number one and two spots, The Lone Ranger came closest, coming in at 3rd.

Not too far behind was Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.

                Debuting at 6th was Elysium.

One Direction: This Is Us came in at 8th.

Three more releases were in the top 20, but failed to make the top 10. Kick-Ass 2 was 11th, while The Family was 17th. Prisoners came in at 18th.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                1. Despicable Me 2
                2. Fast & Furious 6
                3. The Lone Ranger
                4. Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters
                5. Man of Steel
                6. Elysium
                7. The Wolverine
                8. One Direction: This Is Us
                9. Monster University
                10. We're the Millers

                Blu-ray Share:

Despite the low sales results, Kick-Ass 2 was actually the best performing title out of the new releases this week in terms of BD sales share, with 55.67% of all disc packages sold containing the Blu-ray edition of the film. Elysium's 53.66% was the next best.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters managed 45.32%, while the best selling of the new releases this week, The Lone Ranger, got 45.22%.

The rest of the new releases fared less well. Both One Direction: This Is Us and Prisoners managed 36%, while The Family had to make do with 34%.

As for Blu-ray 3D, both Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters and One Direction: This Is Us were available on Blu-ray 3D. The former managed to grab a BD3D sales share of 7.69%, while the latter only managed 1.91%.

                  Top 10:

This week includes the days just before and after Christmas, and while it's traditionally a good week for sales (not the best, compared to more recent weeks, but better than average), it's not known for new releases. And this trend holds true for this year, with Insidious Chapter 2 being the only new release in the Blu-ray top 20, and it only came 9th.

Revenue for this week was up compared to the same week from a year ago, but that's more to do with the inclusion of an extra pre-Christmas shopping day in this year's data. Otherwise, the top 10 was made out of pretty much the same titles that have dominated in recent weeks.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                  1. Despicable Me 2
                  2. Fast & Furious 6
                  3. Man of Steel
                  4. Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters
                  5. Elysium
                  6. The Wolverine
                  7. The Lone Ranger
                  8. We're the Millers
                  9. Insidious Chapter 2
                  10. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

                  Blu-ray Share:

As the only new release of the week, which also wasn't available on Blu-ray 3D, Insidious Chapter 2 managed to grab a BD sales share of 40%, meaning 40% of all disc packages sold contained the Blu-ray edition of the film.

The overall Blu-ray market share for the last week of 2013 was above 30%, a more often than not occurrence for the last quarter of 2013.

                  DVD: $171.23 million
A relatively rare all "green" week, where everything (other than DVD market share) was improved compared to the same week last year.

Blu-ray sales increased by $17.28m (up 25.6%), while DVD sales increased by $16.61m (up 9.7%) producing an overall gain of $33.89 million in combined revenue.

                    Stats:

For the week ending 4th January 2014, here are the stats:

                    Percentage of revenue:
                    Blu-ray vs DVD: 29.59% vs 70.41%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $37.49 million
DVD sales total spending: $89.22 million

                    These stats available from here:

                    Home Media Magazine

                    Top 10:

Blu-ray and DVD sales returned to more "normal" levels, following the highs reached over the holiday shopping period. The first set of results for 2014 still has Blu-ray's market share floating near the 30% mark, which had become a minimum of sorts during the last 3 month.

It was another fairly quiet week for new releases, with only two new releases in the top 20. Don Jon was the best selling of the two new releases. However, it only managed to get as high as 8th on the Blu-ray top 10 charts, selling only a third as many copies as the number title, Despicable Me 2.

The other new release was Sweetwater, coming in at 16th.

Revenue for the first week of 2014 was down compared to the first week of 2013, but that's largely down to the quality of the new releases. Coincidentally, the same week last year also featured a best selling new release starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but last year was the more popular Looper, compared to this year's less mainstream Don Jon.

The post-holiday doldrums will have to continue for a little bit longer, it seems.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                    1. Despicable Me 2
                    2. Man of Steel
                    3. Fast & Furious 6
                    4. Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters
                    5. Elysium
                    6. The Lone Ranger
                    7. The Wolverine
                    8. Don Jon
                    9. We're the Millers
                    10. Insidious Chapter 2

                    Blu-ray Share:

For the two new releases, Don Jon managed to grab a BD sales share of 42.50%, while only 30% of all Sweetwater disc packages contained the Blu-ray version of the film. Neither were available on Blu-ray 3D.

                      Blu-ray vs DVD: 27.06% vs 72.94%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $26.68 million

                      Top 10:

A couple of new releases, but none of which would be what you would refer to as an A-list release. With the holiday shopping done, Blu-ray and DVD revenue also dropped back to more "normal" levels.

Of the new releases in the top 20 this week, Runner Runner was the best selling, although it was still in a distant second place to Despicable Me 2.

It was also the only new release to make the Blu-ray top 10. You have to go down to 15th to find the next new release, which was Archer: The Complete Season Four.

In 20th place was another new release, Closed Circuit.

Two more new releases failed to make the Blu-ray top 20 due to their relatively poor performance on the HD disc format. Duck Dynasty: Season 4 managed to be the week's second best selling title on Blu-ray and DVD combined, but almost no one bought this set on Blu-ray, which saw it fail to make the top 20.

Similarly, the Walmart exclusives Murph: The Protector and The Virginian didn't have enough sales on Blu-ray to make the top 20.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                      1. Despicable Me 2
                      2. Runner Runner
                      3. Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters
                      4. Fast & Furious 6
                      5. The Wolverine
                      6. Man of Steel
                      7. The Lone Ranger
                      8. Elysium
                      9. Don Jon
                      10. Mary Poppins

                      Blu-ray Share:

Not surprisingly, the best selling new release, Runner Runner, also had the best BD sales share. 41.23% of all disc packages for Runner Runner contained the Blu-ray edition of the film.

The next best was Closed Circuit, with 37.49%.

Archer: The Complete Season Four had 25%; while Murph: The Protector's 14%, and The Virginian and Duck Dynasty: Season 4's 8% and 5% explain their poor showings on the Blu-ray top 20 chart.

None of the new releases were available on Blu-ray 3D.

Blu-ray sales total spending: $29.92 million
DVD sales total spending: $76.19 million

                        Top 10:

Quite a lot of new releases for this week, which helped both Blu-ray and DVD revenue record a rise compared to last week. Only one of the new releases broke through the $100 million barrier at the box office, so the recorded rise was considerably minor.

Ironically, the best selling title on Blu-ray for the week, which was also a new release, was not the one that broke through the $100 million barrier. Riddick sold twice as many copies on Blu-ray as the second placed title, the one that did break $100m at the box office, thanks to a better BD sales share (more on that later). Riddick: The Complete Collection was 5th on the Blu-ray chart.

The second placed title, and this week's top seller when combining Blu-ray and DVD numbers, was The Butler.

Selling again half as many copies as the second placed title was the 2013 remake of Carrie.

The next new release on the Blu-ray charts was You're Next in 6th place, which was followed by Fruitvale Station in 7th place.

A couple of other new releases failed to make the Blu-ray top 10, including Enough Said in 14th and The Spectacular Now in 19th.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                        1. Riddick
                        2. The Butler
                        3. Carrie (2013)
                        4. Despicable Me 2
                        5. Riddick: The Complete Collection
                        6. You're Next
                        7. Fruitvale Station
                        8. Fast & Furious 6
                        9. Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters
                        10. The Lone Ranger

                        Blu-ray Share:

Of the new releases this week, Riddick: The Complete Collection had the best BD sales share, with 75.38% of boxsets sold for this title being the Blu-ray edition. The single movie Riddick package was the next best in terms of BD sales share, with 52.49%.

Next up is Carrie, with 44.14%, followed by You're Next with 35.10%.

None of the other new releases made the BD sales share top 20. Fruitvale Station managed 27%, Enough Said at 24%, The Spectacular Now at 22%.

Despite being the best disc seller (when combining both DVD and Blu-ray sales), The Butler only had a BD sales share of 24%, which explains why it did poorer on Blu-ray than Riddick.

None of the new releases were available on Blu-ray 3D.

                          Top 10:

A few new releases, but not enough to prevent Blu-ray and DVD revenue, and Blu-ray market share from dropping compared to last week.

Captain Phillips was the week's new release of choice, and also the top selling Blu-ray for the week ending 25th January 2014.

Machete Kills, in 4th place, was the next best selling new release.

The only other new release in the top 10 was Instructions Not Included, in 6th place. There was also room in 8th place for the 4K remastered edition of Robocop.

Another new release, Blue Jasmine, failed to make the top 10, coming in at 13th.

So a pretty quiet week, overall.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                          1. Captain Phillips
                          2. Riddick
                          3. The Butler
                          4. Machete Kills
                          5. Despicable Me 2
                          6. Instructions Not Included
                          7. Carrie (2013)
                          8. *Robocop (4K Remastered)
                          9. Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters
                          10. Fast & Furious 6

                          Blu-ray Share:

Not surprisingly, Robocop had the best BD sales share, with 75.79% of all editions of Robocop sold this week containing the Blu-ray version of the film. The fact that the only new edition released this week was a Blu-ray only edition helped with the BD sales share figure.

Machete Kills did well too, breaking the 50% barrier with 50.80%.

Captain Phillips wasn't too far behind, with 47.80%.

Blue Jasmine managed 36.10%, while Instructions Not Included only had 18%.

None of the new releases were available on Blu-ray 3D.

                            Top 10:

A couple of good new releases helped Blu-ray and DVD revenue post a rise compared to last week. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 was the week's best selling title, handily beating Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa in second place.

The third and fourth places were also occupied by new releases, by Last Vegas and Rush respectively.

In sixth place was another new release, Downton Abbey: Season 4.

The Fifth Estate was another of the week's new releases, but it failed to make the Blu-ray top 20.

So with 5 out of the top 6 being new releases, both Blu-ray and DVD revenue received a healthy boost compared to last week, with Blu-ray doing slightly better.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                            1. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2
                            2. Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa
                            3. Last Vegas
                            4. Rush
                            5. Captain Phillips
                            6. Downton Abbey: Season 4
                            7. Riddick
                            8. Despicable Me 2
                            9. The Butler
                            10. Prometheus

                            Blu-ray Share:

Of the new releases this week, Rush had the best BD sales share with 61.27% of all sold disc packages containing the Blu-ray version of the film.

Cloudy 2 was just shy of breaking through the 50% barrier, with 49.76%.

Bad Grandpa managed 46.95%, while Last Vegas had 39.42%. The Fifth Estate had 35.04%

The season 4 box set of Downton Abbey failed to make the BD sales share top 20, but the Blu-ray version accounted for 23% of all sales for this title. The season 3 box set, released exactly a year ago, had a BD sales share of 19%, showing Blu-ray's growing market share this past year.

Only one of the new releases this week had a Blu-ray 3D edition - 5.79% of all sales for Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 was the 3D version.

                              Top 10:

Another quiet week in terms of new releases, not so much in quantity as a problem with quality.

None of the new releases sold well enough to reach number one on the Blu-ray sales chart, with last week's Bad Grandpa getting the honor. The best selling new release was Escape Plan.

Free Birds in 4th place was the next best selling new release on Blu-ray, which was followed immediately by Justice League: War in 5th place.

And that was it for the new releases in the top 10, although several notable new releases were outside of it.

Dallas Buyers Club in 11th was the closest to making the top 10, with About Time coming in 13th.

Another new release, Baggage Claim failed to make the top 20 altogether.

So quite a few new releases, but none really sold well enough to help Blu-ray revenue and market share for the week, both of which fell compared to last week.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                              1. Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa
                              2. Escape Plan
                              3. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2
                              4. Free Birds
                              5. Justice League: War
                              6. Man of Steel
                              7. The Godfather Collection
                              8. The Croods
                              9. Turbo
                              10. Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters

                              Blu-ray Share:

Out of all the new releases this year, it was 'Justice League: War' that had the best BD sales share, with 63.44% of all disc packages sold containing the Blu-ray edition of the film.

None of the other new releases did well enough to get into the BD sales share top 20, which might explain the relatively poorer Blu-ray performance for the week.

'Dallas Buyers Club' was the best of the rest, with 40%, followed by 'Escape Plan' and 'About Time', both with 36%. Not too far behind was 'Free Birds' with 32%. A bit more further behind was 'Baggage Claim' with 16%.

None of the new releases were available on Blu-ray 3D.

                              DVD: $104.02 million
The (barely) superior Blu-ray market share for this week, compared to a year ago, helped to avoid an "all red" week where everything was down compared to the same week from last year. Last year's release of the Blu-ray exclusive 'Peter Pan' was what helped that week to be much better than this week.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $7.07m (down 17.9%), while DVD sales decreased by $19.35m (down 18.6%) producing an overall difference of $26.42 million less in combined revenue.

Blu-ray's market share grew from 27.51% to 27.68%.

For the week ending 15th February 2014, here are the stats:

                                Percentage of revenue:
                                Blu-ray vs DVD: 28.06% vs 71.94%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $43.67 million
DVD sales total spending: $111.97 million

                                Top 10:

Blu-ray weekly revenue reached the highest point in the still nascent 2014, thanks to the release of a Disney classic and a modern sci-fi.

The Diamond edition of The Jungle Book was the week's top seller on Blu-ray. Unlike some previously Disney classic Blu-ray releases, The Jungle Book was not a Blu-ray exclusive, although it sold a lot better on Blu-ray than on DVD.

A little further behind in second place was another new release: Ender's Game.

Somewhat further behind, in third place, was The Best Man Holiday.

It's down to 8th place before we have another new release, The Counselor.

Just outside of the Blu-ray top 10, in 11th place, was All Is Lost. There were also a few releases outside of the top 20. Neither Sherlock: Season Three nor Grace Unplugged sold enough copies on Blu-ray to get into the top 20.

But largely thanks to the top 2 releases, Blu-ray revenue was at a 2014 high, although market share remains largely steady compared to recent weeks.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                                1. The Jungle Book
                                2. Ender's Game
                                3. The Best Man Holiday
                                4. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2
                                5. Escape Plan
                                6. Despicable Me 2
                                7. Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa
                                8. The Counselor
                                9. Free Birds
                                10. Captain Phillips

                                Blu-ray Share:

As mentioned earlier, 'The Jungle Book' was much more popular on Blu-ray than on DVD, with 57.79% of all disc packages sold containing the Blu-ray edition of the film.

'Ender's Game' did well too, breaking through the 50% barrier with 51.87%.

The next best result came from 'The Counselor', with 37.79%. 'All is Lost' had 29%, while 'The Best Man Holiday' managed 27%.

The titles that didn't make the Blu-ray top 20 did not sell particularly well, and didn't do enough on Blu-ray either. 'Sherlock: Season Three' finished 11th in the combined Blu-ray and DVD charts, but only had a BD sales share of 26%. 'Grace Unplugged' only had a 10% BD sales share.

None of the new releases were available on Blu-ray 3D.

An all red week was unavoidable this time around, thanks to this time last year being the week that Skyfall was released. None of the releases this week stacks up to that blockbuster, not even combining their box office performances.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $20.46m (down 31.9%), while DVD sales decreased by $20.07m (down 15.2%) producing an overall difference of $40.53 million less in combined revenue.

Blu-ray's market share dropped from 32.69% to 28.06%.
