Top 10:

The first week of January is usually a quiet one, and this week was no exception. Still, this didn't stop Warner Bros. from scheduling the release of one of their big movies (or at least a movie with big hopes) for this week - Black Adam was easily the top-seller for the week.

The horror film Prey for the Devil was another new release, coming in 4th place.

And the Criterion releases of the Blu-ray and 4K versions of The Adventures of Baron Munchausen was 8th, and the last of the new releases in the top 20.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: All three new releases had 4K editions. 8 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

Blu-ray, Ultra HD Blu-ray Sales Share:

The BD sales share is the percentage of disc packages sold for that contained the titles's Blu-ray edition (including combos, and Ultra HD editions) for a particular title. So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

"Prey for the Devil" beat "Black Adam" in terms of BD sales share, but only just - 61.72% vs 61.53%. "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" was a Blu-ray-only (re)release, and so we would consider it having 100% BD sales share for this particular re-issue.

On 4K, "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" led every other titles with a 4K sales share of 64.91%. "Black Adam" did well with a 4K sales share of 22.46%, ahead of the 16.12% earned by "Prey for the Devil"

Top 10:

Blu-ray sales slumped to below $10 million in what is the worst set of results since 21 September, 2008. The poor performing nature of the week isn't too surprising considering that January is traditionally a quiet week, but to go all the way back to almost the beginning of Blu-ray means that this disc format, and all physical media for that matter, may be on the way out.

To be fair, the lack of any compelling new releases in the top 10 was also a major factor, with the 4K 30th anniversary edition of Groundhog Day being the only new release in the top 10, and the 4K and Blu-ray editions of Dragons Forever in 12th being the only other new release in the top 20.

As a result, Blu-ray sales were down more than 42% compared to the same week last year - but to be fair, this time last year saw the release of "Dune: Part 1" on 4K/Blu-ray, a big release that's absent from this week's release slate.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Both new releases in the top 10 had 4K editions. 9 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

As mentioned before, this time last year saw "Dune: Part 1" being released, and being such a big release (and one that the home theater crowd couldn't wait to get their hands on), it really helped to lift Blu-ray sales. A such, an "all red" week in which every metric below is worse off, was hard to avoid without an equally big release this week.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $6.66m (down 42.5%), with unit sales down 40.1%.

DVD sales decreased by $5.82m (down 30.8%), with unit sales down 29.4%.

This meant $12.48 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share decreased from 45.34% to 40.81%

Top 10:

Oh boy. Another week, another record low, this time the lowest since 24 August, 2008. If it drops any lower, it will be before we started tracking Blu-ray sales, and I started doing that way back during the days of the Blu-ray vs HD DVD war.

The fact that the top-selling new release was a movie that had already had its streaming debut, The Menu, probably contributed to the state of things. As a result, "The Menu" only managed a third-place finish in a week still dominated by "Black Adam" and "Top Gun: Maverick".

The next two new releases in the top 10 were 4K SteelBook releases re-releases, Cloverfield in 4th and They Live in 5th.

Till just missed out a top 10 finish, finishing in 11th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: "The Menu" and "Till" did not have 4K editions. 9 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

Top 10:

For the third week in a row, Blu-ray sales have broken a new record - a new record for the lowest revenue. Last week saw Blu-ray revenue drop to its lowest since 24 August 2008 - this week was even lower.

New releases are still thin on the ground, but there were three new releases in the top 20. Violent Night was the best-selling new release for the week, and the week's overall top-seller.

The Dentist Collection was in third, while the 25th anniversary edition of Belly was 6th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Only "Belly" came in 4K (it was a 4K only release). 7 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

Top 10:

Surely, not four weeks in a row of record low results? Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened - another week, another new record for the lowest revenue recorded. Last week saw Blu-ray revenue drop to its lowest since 24 August 2008 - this week was even lower.

If anything, the calibre of new releases this week was even worse than that of last week, which at least had a top-seller in "Violent Night". This week, the top-selling new release was the Blu-ray-only release of Mindcage in 5th, followed by the 4K release of Event Horizon in 6th place.

The first time Blu-ray release of Young Sherlock Holmes on SteelBook was in 7th, just above the 4K release of Dawn of the Dead in 8th.

In terms of "new" new releases, Bones and All in 19th was the only one.

Next week sees "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" get released on 4K and Blu-ray. Will this Marvel blockbuster help arrest Blu-ray's freefall in recent weeks? But consider that this movie was already made available on Disney+ prior to its disc release, the impact it has will be limited, to say the least.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Neither "Mindcage" nor "Bones and All" came in 4K editions. 7 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

Top 10:

Blu-ray's recent run of record-low results has been broken by the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It outsold the second-placed (also new to the week) Legion of Super-Heroes by almost a 10-to-1 margin.

Mickey & Minnie: 10 Classic Shorts Vol. 1 was the next new release in 7th.

The Best Buy exclusive 4K SteelBook edition of Warm Bodies was 10th, and the 4K release of Bubba Ho-Tep was 16th.

So Blu-ray revenue went up almost $3 million compare to last week's record-low, but this still puts Blu-ray revenue just above $10 million, which is on the low side, even for February.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Only "Mickey & Minnie: 10 Classic Shorts Vol. 1" failed to have a 4K edition. 8 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

DVD sales decreased by $8.18m (down 39.7%), with unit sales down 35.7%.

This meant $14.53 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue retreated below $10 million for the week, despite the release of the Oscar-nominated (poll: who do you think should win the Best Picture Oscar?) The Fabelmans. The Steven Spielberg semi-autobiography debuts only in second place, still behind last week's number one, "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever".

The week saw only two other new releases, Strange World, which has been on Disney+ for a while now, in 4th place, and the Criterion version of 1968's Romeo & Juliet, in 7th.

Next week is an even lighter week in terms of new releases, so brace for some pretty bad results. This week's was already bad enough, with Blu-ray sales down more than 39% compared to the same week just a year ago.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Only "The Fabelmans" was made available on 4K as a wide release, but "Strange World" did have 4K editions as Best Buy and Disney Movie Club exclusives. 7 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

"Romeo and Juliet" smashed the BD sales share with 91.29%, meaning almost nobody opted for the DVD version of this Criterion set (when will Criterion discontinue producing DVDs, I wonder ...)

"The Fabelmans" had a BD sales share of 63.73%, with the 4K version having a 4K sales share of 23.57%.

"Strange World" had a BD sales share of 51.61%, with a 4K sales share of 14.42%.

Top 10:

The 4K edition of The Magnificent Seven was the top-selling new release for the week, but it only managed to finish 8th in another quiet week release wise. As a result, weekly Blu-ray revenue dropped again to almost below $8 million.

The 4K edition of Dazed and Confused was also new to the top 20, in 12th.

And finally in 14th, we have another 4K edition in the form of the Slumber Party Massacre Double Feature.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: All 3 new releases in the top 20 were 4K only releases. 8 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

Another "all red" week in which every stat below is in the red. I guess three 4K releases of older classics couldn't compare with this time last year, which saw "The King’s Man", "American Underdog", "House of Gucci" and "The 355" all new to the top 10.

DVD sales decreased by $7.04m (down 36.2%), with unit sales down 33.2%.

This meant $12.34 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Top 10:

There are quite a few new releases in the top 10, and while weekly Blu-ray revenue rose above $10 million for the week, it was mostly due to one title, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

Devotion was in second place, but was some distance away.

The 4K release of Training Day was 4th, just ahead of the 4K and the 4K SteelBook release of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody was the next new release in 7th place.

With the new John Wick movie not too far away, the previous movies have been released in Target/Wal-Mart exclusive packages, including John Wick: Chapters 1-3 in 9th place.

Outside of the top 10, the standard 4K and 4K SteelBook release of Kubo and the Two Strings were in 11. Similar to the John Wick movies, the first four Rocky movies are being released in 4K (as Best Buy exclusives), and the boxset collection Rocky: The Knockout Collection was 12th, with the first Rocky movie in 14th.

The limited time re-issue of the Scream 4K SteelBook set was 15th, while finally in 19th, we have the 4K and 4K SteelBook release of The Boxtrolls.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Only "Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody" didn't have a 4K release - all the rest either did or were 4K-only releases. 8 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

On 4K, "Devotion" got a 4K sales share of 10.53%, with "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" getting 10.19%.

Despite so many new releases this week up against a week from a year ago, that didn't have a single new release in the top 10 (and only 2 in the top 20), Blu-ray revenue was still down compared to back then (but only slightly).

Blu-ray sales decreased by $0.25m (down 2.3%), with unit sales down 6.6%.

DVD sales decreased by $5.3m (down 26.5%), with unit sales down 28.0%.

Top 10:

Another quiet week in terms of new releases and weekly Blu-ray revenue slipped under $10 million again, with weekly Blu-ray market share also falling below 40%.

We have to go down all the way to 7th for the first new release, the 4K SteelBook release of Air Force One.

It was another SteelBook release in 10th, the Best Buy exclusive version for Rocky II.

The next new release and the last one in the top 20 was also a SteelBook - this time for The Mask of Zorro, in 11th.

So it seems SteelBook releases are the only thing that's keeping Blu-ray on life support at the moment.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: All 3 new releases in the top 20 were 4K SteelBook releases. 9 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

The BD sales share is the percentage of disc packages sold for that contained the titles's Blu-ray edition (including combos, and Ultra HD editions) for a particular title. So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

All 3 new releases in the top 20 were 4K only releases, so technically they would all be at 100% for Blu-ray and 4K sales share.

DVD sales decreased by $8.36m (down 37.6%), with unit sales down 33.89%.
