    Stats:

For the week ending 22nd February 2014, here are the stats:

    Percentage of revenue:
    Blu-ray vs DVD: 30.24% vs 69.76%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $38.47 million
DVD sales total spending: $88.74 million

    These stats available from here:

    Home Media Magazine

    Top 10:

There was only one major new release this week, but it did very well on Blu-ray (compared to DVD) to help Blu-ray's market share reach over 30% for the week, the first time in 2014 this has happened.

Game of Thrones: The Complete Third Season was that release, and it easily outsold last week's number one and this week's number two, The Jungle Book. What helped the Blu-ray numbers, at the expense of the DVD numbers, was how popular the latest season of GoT was on Blu-ray - something we'll discuss later on.

Not only that, the previous two season box sets also re-entered the top 10, at 9th and 10th on the Blu-ray charts.

But that was it in terms of new releases in the top 20.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
    1. Game of Thrones: The Complete Third Season
    2. The Jungle Book
    3. Ender's Game
    4. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2
    5. The Best Man Holiday
    6. Despicable Me 2
    7. Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa
    8. Escape Plan
    9. Game of Thrones: The Complete Second Season
    10. Game of Thrones: The Complete First Season

    Blu-ray Share:

The season 3 box set of Game of Thrones did very well on Blu-ray, with 64.51% of all users choosing to buy the edition that contained the Blu-ray version of the show - that's nearly 2 out of every 3 copies sold.

This improves slightly on the debut of the last season of GoT, which managed to have a BD sales share of 61.35% when it was first released.

The stats for the week ending 23rd February 2013 are as follows. Some small adjustments to the data posted last year (based on more recent updates) has been made and is shown below.

Another all red week as this week's singular new release could not measure up to the same week a year ago's multiple new releases, and the continued success of Skyfall.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $14.23m (down 27%), while DVD sales decreased by $16.9m (down 16%) producing an overall difference of $31.13 million less in combined revenue.

Blu-ray's market share dropped from 33.28% to 30.24%.

      Stats:

For the week ending 1st March 2014, here are the stats:

      Percentage of revenue:
      Blu-ray vs DVD: 36.74% vs 63.26%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $57.09 million
DVD sales total spending: $98.31 million

      These stats available from here:

      Home Media Magazine

      Top 10:

Two super releases have easily allowed Blu-ray revenue and weekly market share to reach 2014 highs, although still very much short of records for these results.

Thor: The Dark World was the week's best selling new release, somewhat surprisingly and easily outselling Gravity. The Thor sequel sold almost twice as many copies as Gravity, despite the latter being the box office winner.

More surprisingly, despite the acclaim received by the 3D version of Gravity at the cinemas, it was Thor: The Dark World that did better, against almost twice as better, on Blu-ray 3D.

Indie film Nebraska was the only other notable new release, and while it obviously could not go head to head with the two heavyweights, it did well enough to come in 7th.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
      1. Thor: The Dark World
      2. Gravity
      3. Game of Thrones: The Complete Third Season
      4. The Jungle Book
      5. Ender's Game
      6. Captain Phillips
      7. Nebraska
      8. Despicable Me 2
      9. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2
      10. Escape Plan

      Blu-ray Share:

Both of this week's big releases did well on Blu-ray, and both sold more on Blu-ray than on DVD. Again, 'Thor' came out on top, with 58.95% of all disc packages sold containing the Blu-ray (or Blu-ray 3D) edition of the film. 'Gravity' managed a slightly lower 52.29%.

Nebraska's BD sales share was 37.86%.

Both of the top two releases had Blu-ray 3D editions, and again 'Thor' won easily in this regard with 24.60% of all disc packages containing a Blu-ray 3D copy of the film. This means that 2 out of every 5 Blu-ray buyers went for the Blu-ray 3D combo edition.

The Blu-ray 3D edition of 'Gravity' was 13.57% of all disc sales.

The 'all red' streak is broken! This time last year was the release of the final Twilight movie. The Twilight saga movies have always done poorly on Blu-ray compared to the DVD version, and so this week's two Blu-ray heavyweights easily sold more.

Blu-ray sales increased by $8.83m (up 18.3%), while DVD sales decreased by $30.88m (down 23.9%) producing an overall difference of $22.05 million less in combined revenue.

Blu-ray's market share increased from 27.20% to 36.74%.

For the week ending 8th March 2014, here are the stats:

        Percentage of revenue:
        Blu-ray vs DVD: 35.81% vs 64.19%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $59.26 million

        Top 10:

Both DVD and Blu-ray revenue rose compared to last week's already 2014 highs, thanks to the release of a new Hunger Game movie.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was easily the week's best selling new release, outselling last week's top releases, 'Gravity' and 'Thor: The Dark World' by more than a 6-to-1 margin. It's dominance also saw 5th place on the Blu-ray chart belonging to the The Hunger Games/Catching Fire 2-Movie Set, which was a Walmart exclusive. Even the original Hunger Game movie got in on the act and managed a 6th place finish.

On DVD, there was another new release that came closest to the new Hunger Games movie, and that was the Oscar winner 12 Years a Slave - it didn't sell as many copies on Blu-ray though, and so it was only 4th on the Blu-ray chart.

The only other new Blu-ray release in the top 10 was Super Bowl XLVIII Champions: Seattle Seahawks.

The Grandmaster was another new release, but it failed to make the Blu-ray top 20.

But this week was all about 'Catching Fire', and it helped Blu-ray record its highest result in 2014, beating last week's (2014) record.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
        1. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
        2. Gravity
        3. Thor: The Dark World
        4. 12 Years a Slave
        5. The Hunger Games/Catching Fire 2-Movie Set (Walmart exclusive)
        6. The Hunger Games
        7. Game of Thrones: The Complete Third Season
        8. The Jungle Book
        9. Despicable Me 2
        10. Super Bowl XLVIII Champions: Seattle Seahawks

        Blu-ray Share:

The title that had the best BD sales share was a surprising one. 'Super Bowl XLVIII Champions: Seattle Seahawks' beat all other new releases with a BD sales share of 52.32%, meaning 52.32% of all disc packages sold for this video contained the Blu-ray version.

'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' wasn't too far behind, with 51.03%.

And despite not making the top 20 sales wise, 'The Grandmaster' had 41.37%, which is more then respectable.

'12 Years a Slave' had a BD sales share of 33%.

None of the new releases were available on Blu-ray 3D.

        DVD: $133.93 million
Despite this week's bumper results, last year's release of 'Wreck-it-Ralph', along with the still new Twilight finale, gave that week a slightly better Blu-ray sales result.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $2.09m (down 3.4%), while DVD sales decreased by $27.72m (down 20.7%) producing an overall difference of $29.81 million less in combined revenue.

          Stats:

For the week ending 15th March 2014, here are the stats:

          Percentage of revenue:
          Blu-ray vs DVD: 30.15% vs 69.85%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $43.92 million
DVD sales total spending: $101.76 million

          These stats available from here:

          Home Media Magazine

          Top 10:

Blu-ray and DVD revenue declined from the previous weeks' highs, as the new releases from this week did not match the high profile releases of past weeks.

On Blu-ray, it was the big releases from the last few weeks that dominated the top positions, with 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire', 'Thor: The Dark World' and 'Gravity' occupying the top 3 spots. The 4th spot went to this week's top selling new release, Homefront.

The next new release, The Book Thief, was in 6th place, followed by Out of the Furnace in 8th place.

Barbie: The Pearl Princess just missed out on a top 10 finish, finishing in 11th, while Inside Llewyn Davis had a 15th place finish.

So we're off the record highs (for 2014), but the big releases are still selling well enough to keep Blu-ray revenue and market share relatively high.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
          1. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
          2. Thor: The Dark World
          3. Gravity
          4. Homefront
          5. 12 Years a Slave
          6. The Book Thief
          7. The Hunger Games/Catching Fire 2-Movie Set (Walmart exclusive)
          8. Out of the Furnace
          9. Despicable Me 2
          10. Game of Thrones: The Complete Third Season

          Blu-ray Share:

Surprisingly, it was the 15th placed 'Inside Llewyn Davis' that had the best BD sales share for the week. It recorded a BD sales share of 56.64%, meaning 56.64% of all disc packages sold contained the Blu-ray version of the film. But it did not sell enough on Blu-ray (or DVD) to get a higher ranking in the sales charts.

At the other end, the week's best selling new release 'Homefront' managed a BD sales share of 39.73%.

The other new releases include 'Out of the Furnace' with 35%; 'The Book Thief' with 25%; and 'Barbie: The Pearl Princess' with only 12%.

None of the new releases were available on Blu-ray 3D.

Another 'all red' week, where everything was down compared to the same week last year. This week's releases had no chance against last year's 'Rise of the Guardians' and 'Life of Pi'.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $8.24m (down 15.8%), while DVD sales decreased by $9.57m (down 8.6%) producing an overall difference of $17.81 million less in combined revenue.

            Stats:

For the week ending 22nd March 2014, here are the stats:

            Percentage of revenue:
            Blu-ray vs DVD: 42.16% vs 57.84%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $101.98 million

            Top 10:

The release of Disney's Frozen helped Blu-ray records its second best ever weekly market share result, while revenue was also a 2014 high as well.

With a weekly market share of 42.16, it was only second to the week that 'Marvel's The Avengers', another Disney release, was released (where market share was 44.10%).

Frozen also dominated the sales charts, bringing in the best yet result for 2014, and dominated all other titles, outselling the second placed Saving Mr. Banks (yet another Disney release) by more than an 18-to-1 margin.

American Hustle was in a close 3rd place (close to Saving Mr. Banks, not to Frozen obviously), while the only other new release in the top 10 was Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, in 10th place.

Reasonable Doubt and Jeff Dunham's Achmed Saves America were both new releases that failed to make the Blu-ray top 10, with the latter failing to make even the Blu-ray top 20.

But it doesn't really matter, as the only title to make a real difference this week was Frozen.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
            1. Frozen
            2. Saving Mr. Banks
            3. American Hustle
            4. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
            5. Thor: The Dark World
            6. Gravity
            7. 12 Years a Slave
            8. Homefront
            9. Despicable Me 2
            10. Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom

            Blu-ray Share:

"Frozen's" solid sales and it translated almost evenly to both Blu-ray and DVD, with 49.64% of all disc sales for this film containing the Blu-ray edition of the film - we've seen new release titles do better, and had Disney released Frozen as a Blu-ray exclusive like other releases in the past, Blu-ray sales and market share would have been even higher for the week (even if it's an exaggerated stat).

'American Hustle' was the next best of the new releases, with 49.39%. 'Saving Mr. Banks' recorded a respectable 41.86%.

The other three new releases were some ways behind when it came to BD sales share. 'Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom', 'Reasonable Doubt' and 'Jeff Dunham's Achmed Saves America' managed 27%, 14% and 11% respectively.

None of the new releases were released on Blu-ray 3D.

Even this time last year's release of the first 'Hobbit' movie on Blu-ray could not match up the powerhouse that is Frozen, and completely and comprehensively reverses the recent trend of "all red" with an "all green" week (where everything listed below is "up" on the same time last year).

Blu-ray sales increased by $23.23m (up 29.5%), while even DVD sales increased by $14.21m (up 11.3%) producing an overall difference of $37.44 million more in combined revenue.

              Top 10:

The release of The Wolf of Wall Street could not unseat last week's number one, 'Frozen', from its throne at the top of the Blu-ray sales charts. This week's Blu-ray sales results fell quite dramatically, to less than half of last week's results.

Walking With Dinosaurs was in a distant 3rd place. In 5th place was another new release, Delivery Man.

Another couple of new releases did not finish in the top 10. Scooby-Doo! Wrestlemania Mystery came closest, finishing in 11th. Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher was close behind in 12th, while Monster High: Frights, Camera, Action! was in 13th, and Odd Thomas was in 15th.

So after a big week last week, this week was a much quieter one, although still an above average week.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
              1. Frozen
              2. The Wolf of Wall Street
              3. Walking With Dinosaurs: The Movie
              4. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

              9. 12 Years a Slave
              10. Despicable Me 2

              Blu-ray Share:

53.79% of all copies of 'The Wolf of Wall Street' sold contained the Blu-ray version of the film, ensuring it had the best BD sales share for the week.

Despite not coming in the top 10, 'Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher' had the next best BD sales share, 46.86%, of the new releases.

As for the rest, 'Walking With Dinosaurs: The Movie' managed 34.79%; 'Delivery Man' had 30%; 'Odd Thomas' had 20%; and 'Scooby-Doo! Wrestlemania Mystery' and 'Monster High: Frights, Camera, Action!' had 12% and 11% respectively.

Only 'Walking With Dinosaurs: The Movie' was available on Blu-ray 3D out of the new releases this week, and 4.03% of all copies sold contained the 3D version.

                Top 10:

Blu-ray and DVD revenue, as well as Blu-ray market share, remained largely unchanged from last week as Disney's Frozen stayed on top of the sales charts for the third week running.

Another Disney new release, The Pirate Fairy, occupied the second place spot on the Blu-ray charts.

A little bit behind in third place was Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. A 2-movie set featuring both Anchorman movies was available at Walmart exclusively, and sold enough to come 6th in the Blu-ray charts.

Sandwiched in between, in 4th place, was 47 Ronin.

Two more new releases made the combined Blu-ray and DVD top 20. The Little Rascals Save the Day came 15th on the Blu-ray charts, while SEAL Team 8: Behind Enemy Lines did not make the Blu-ray top 20.

So another relatively quiet week, with just enough new releases and with Frozen doing just enough to maintain revenue and market share levels.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                1. Frozen
                2. The Pirate Fairy
                3. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues
                4. 47 Ronin
                5. The Wolf of Wall Street
                6. *Anchorman 2-Movie Set (Walmart exclusive)
                7. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
                8. Walking With Dinosaurs: The Movie
                9. American Hustle
                10. Thor: The Dark World

                Blu-ray Share:

'Anchorman 2' had the best BD sales share of any release, new and old, this week - 62.19% of all sold copies of the film contained the Blu-ray edition of the film.

'47 Ronin' also broke through the 50% barrier (meaning the Blu-ray and combo editions were more popular than the DVD only editions), with 55.11%.

This week's top selling new release 'The Pirate Fairly' managed 46.64%, while 'The Little Rascals Save the Day' and 'SEAL Team 8: Behind Enemy Lines' had 19% and 18% respectively.

None of the new releases this week had Blu-ray 3D versions.

For the week ending 12th April 2014, here are the stats:

                  Percentage of revenue:
                  Blu-ray vs DVD: 36.94% vs 63.06%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $54.79 million

                  Top 10:

Another relatively good week for Blu-ray, with revenue rising above $50 million, mainly thanks to the release of the A-lister The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

It was easily the top selling disc of the week, finally unseating Frozen from the throne it has been occupying for the last three weeks.

There were a few other new releases this week, but none of the caliber of the second 'Hobbit' movie.

Grudge Match, in 6th place, was the best of the rest on Blu-ray, beating August: Osage County in 9th place.

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones finished outside of the top 10, in 13th place.

And that was pretty much it for the week.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                  1. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
                  2. Frozen
                  3. The Pirate Fairy
                  4. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues
                  5. 47 Ronin
                  6. Grudge Match
                  7. The Wolf of Wall Street
                  8. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
                  9. August: Osage County
                  10. Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures

                  Blu-ray Share:

'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' debuts on Blu-ray with a very healthy set of BD sales numbers, with 60.71% of all sets sold containing the Blu-ray edition of the film (so only 39.29% of purchasers opted for the DVD-only edition).

'Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones' managed 40.45%, just ahead of the 39.13% earned by 'Grudge Match'.

'August: Osage County' managed "only" 19%.

And 10.68% of buyers opted for the edition of 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' that contained the 3D version of the film.

For the week ending 19th April 2014, here are the stats:

                    Blu-ray vs DVD: 30.29% vs 69.71%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $53.39 million

                    Top 10:

The pre-Easter sales period usually means more DVD (budget) sales, and so DVD market share rose at the expense of Blu-ray market share, with Blu-ray revenue remaining relatively unchanged from last week.

A relatively quiet release week also didn't help Blu-ray, with this week's top release, Ride Along, only managing to finish 3rd on the Blu-ray sales list, behind 'Frozen' (back to the top spot) and 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug'. The Nut Job was not too far behind in 4th.

The next most popular new release, and the only one left in the top 10, was The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, in 6th.

You have to go down to 15th to find the next new release, Philomena.

Comparing Easter 2014 to Easter 2013, Blu-ray market share remained practically unchanged, while both Blu-ray and DVD revenue was a lot lower this year than last. The caliber of releases during the respective Easter weeks contributed, with the well received 'Lincoln' being last year's top release for the week, a much bigger and different title to 'Ride Along' this year.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                    1. Frozen
                    2. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
                    3. Ride Along
                    4. The Nut Job
                    5. The Pirate Fairy
                    6. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
                    7. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
                    8. Despicable Me 2
                    9. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues
                    10. The Wolf of Wall Street

                    Blu-ray Share:

Of this week's new releases 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty' had the best BD sales share, with 45.14% of all disc packages sold containing a Blu-ray version of the film. In comparison, this week's top seller 'Ride Along' managed only 35.15%, just ahead of the 34.26% for 'The Nut Job'.

                    'Philomena' managed only 23%.

Of the new releases, only 'The Nut Job' was available on Blu-ray 3D, but only a paltry 1.75% chose to buy the edition that contained the 3D version of the film!

                      Stats:

For the week ending 26th April 2014, here are the stats:

                      Percentage of revenue:
                      Blu-ray vs DVD: 27.17% vs 72.83%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $24.37 million

                      Top 10:

This year's post-Easter lull was not that much different to previous years: very slow sales, and lack of new releases. The only problem is that this week's DVD revenue results is the lowest on record for us, since we started keeping track in 2010!

Blu-ray revenue wasn't as bad, but it was also down on last year's post-Easter lull.

The fact that the week's only new release in the combined Blu-ray and DVD top 20 wasn't even available on Blu-ray (and it only finished 2nd), contributed greatly to this week's poor numbers.

Results like these make sense of Sony's decision to write-down a large chunk of its disc manufacturing business.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                      1. Frozen

                      3. Ride Along

                        Stats:

For the week ending 3rd May 2014, here are the stats:

                        Percentage of revenue:
                        Blu-ray vs DVD: 26.72% vs 73.28%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $23.65 million
DVD sales total spending: $64.85 million

                        Top 10:

Another slow week for new releases and Blu-ray and DVD revenue, along with Blu-ray market share, fell again. DVD revenue set a new low, beating last week - making this week the worst week on record for DVD since 2010.

The best selling new release was The Legend of Hercules, which just failed to unseat Frozen from the top of the Blu-ray charts.

The next most popular new release was Labor Day in 8th place, and that was it for new releases in the top 10.

In 11th was Devil's Due. New on Blu-ray was Space Battleship Yamato in 16th.

So another quiet week, and another poor set of results for both formats. Next week is not looking too great either!

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                        1. Frozen
                        2. The Legend of Hercules
                        3. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
                        4. Ride Along
                        5. The Amazing Spider-Man
                        6. The Wolf of Wall Street
                        7. The Nut Job
                        8. Labor Day
                        9. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
                        10. The Pirate Fairy

                        Blu-ray Share:

The reason for the lower Blu-ray market share for the week is easily explained by the fact that only one of the new releases made the BD sales share top 20, and it only came in 18th! 'The Legend of Hercules' with a BD sales share of 31.94% was the best of a pretty average lot, with 'Labor Day' and 'Devil's Due' at 29% and 27% respectively.

As for 3D, 'The Legend of Hercules' was only released in a Blu-ray 3D & 2D combo pack, making its BD3D sales share the same as its Blu-ray sales share.

Blu-ray's market share decreased from 27.69% to 26.72%.

Blu-ray sales total spending: $24.33 million
DVD sales total spending: $67.02 million

                          Top 10:

A slight improvement off the past two week's lows, but not by much. The quantity and quality of the new releases this week still leaves much to be desired, with straight-to-disc Son of Batman being the best of the two new releases in the top 10. It finished just behind Frozen, which again was top of the charts (can't remember the last time a title was up there for so long - to be fair, aided by the lacklustre releases in recent weeks).

The other was the Veronica Mars fan-backed movie, which finished in 4th.

Also new on Blu-ray, but way down in the sales charts, were a series of original Godzilla movie packs (in time for the new Godzilla movie, no doubt). These include 'Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S/Godzilla: Final Wars', 'Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II/Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla', 'Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah/Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth' and 'Godzilla vs. Destoroyah/Godzilla vs. Megaguirus', in 16th and then in 18th to 20th.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                          1. Frozen
                          2. Son of Batman
                          3. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
                          4. Veronica Mars
                          5. The Amazing Spider-Man
                          6. The Legend of Hercules
                          7. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

                          10. Labor Day

                          Blu-ray Share:

Overall weekly Blu-ray market share actually dropped by 0.09%, but basically relatively unchanged.

This is despite 'Son of Batman' being the title with the best BD sales share for the week, with 63.62% of all disc packages for this film containing the BD version.

                          'Veronica Mars' managed 40.08%.

Neither of these two new releases were available on Blu-ray 3D.

                            Stats:

For the week ending 17th May 2014, here are the stats:

                            Percentage of revenue:
                            Blu-ray vs DVD: 26.96% vs 73.04%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $22.89 million
DVD sales total spending: $62.00 million

                            Top 10:

Despite 3 new release in the top 10, including one that finally toppled the reign of 'Frozen', Blu-ray revenue fell to its lowest levels for the year, while DVD revenue again broke new records for "suckiness". Weekly Blu-ray market share actually rose slightly (the fall in Blu-ray sales was slightly slower than the fall in DVD sales), but still remains below average.

I, Frankenstein was the week's best seller, and following recent trend (mostly with less well known releases), it was available on Blu-ray in a single 2D+3D combo pack. In any case, it easily defeated 'Frozen', for which sales are starting to wane after being on top for so many weeks.

The next new release was in 4th place, Her. In 5th place was another new release, That Awkward Moment.

Outside of the Blu-ray top 20 were a couple of other new releases, including Wrestlemania XXX and Special ID.

Paw Patrol was also a new release, but it was not available on Blu-ray.

So hardly a week filed with well known releases, and so the slide continues ... until we get a real A-list release, that is.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
                            1. I, Frankenstein
                            2. Frozen
                            3. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
                            4. Her
                            5. That Awkward Moment
                            6. Son of Batman
                            7. The Amazing Spider-Man
                            8. The Pirate Fairy
                            9. Ride Along
                            10. The Legend of Hercules

                            Blu-ray Share:

As mentioned earlier, there was a slight uptick in weekly Blu-ray market share, but the change was relatively minor.

Of this week's new releases, 'Her' had the best BD sales share, with 47.24% of all disc packages sold for the film containing the Blu-ray version.

Despite being a Blu-ray 2D+3D only combo, 'I, Frankenstein' only had a BD sales share of 37.91%.

The other new releases progressively did work. 'That Awkward Moment' had 30%, while 'Special ID' managed 26% compared to the 23% for 'Wrestlemania XXX'.

For the week ending 24th May 2014, here are the stats:

                              Blu-ray vs DVD: 28.44% vs 71.56%

                              Top 10:

A couple of better releases this week, and this meant a slight recovery for both Blu-ray and DVD revenue, with Blu-ray doing the better out of the two.

In fact, the top 3 for this week on Blu-ray were all new releases. The week's best seller was The Monuments Men, which easily beat 3 Days to Kill in second place. A Walmart exclusive pack featuring 'The Monuments Men/The Bridge on the River Kwai/The Guns of Navarone' was also in the top 10, in 9th place.

A little bit further behind in third place was Pompeii.

About Last Night and Vampire Academy in 6th and 8th were also new releases for the week.

Sophia Grace & Rosie's Royal Adventure was also new on Blu-ray, and while it made the combined Blu-ray and DVD top 20, it failed to make the Blu-ray top 20.

So some better releases, in particularly the top 3, but still not enough to drag home video revenue out of the recent lows.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):

Of this week's new releases, 'Pompeii' came closest to breaking the 50% BD shares barrier, with 48.23% of all disc packages sold for the film containing the Blu-ray version.

'3 Days to Kill' was the next best, with 42.93%, followed by 'The Monuments Men' with 41.92%.

'About Last Night' and 'Vampire Academy' managed 24% and 20% respectively, while 'Sophia Grace & Rosie's Royal Adventure' only got 11%.

Only 'Pompeii' was available on Blu-ray 3D, and it managed a BD3D sales share of 9.26%.

                                Top 10:

Another quiet week of releasing, and both Blu-ray and DVD revenue declines again. In fact, DVD is again at the lowest point for quite some time, and in danger of falling below $60m for the first time since ... I don't know when.

In terms of new releases this week, the best and only was Endless Love, which only managed to finish in 6th place. And this was it for new Blu-ray releases in the top 20 at least.

This extended lull in new releases is seriously hurting the bottom line, but as we inch forward towards the second half of the year, the situation should resolve itself ... in time.

                                Blu-ray: $22.43 million
                                DVD: $69.63 million
Blu-ray sales decreased by $0.31m (down 1.4%), while DVD sales decreased by $8.98m (down 12.9%) producing an overall difference of $9.2 million less in combined revenue.

Blu-ray's market share increased from 24.36% to 26.72%, the only measure that recorded a 'green' result to prevent this week from becoming an 'all red' one. The only sign of a silver lining is that while revenue is down compared to a year ago, the actual amount, $8.98 million this week, is not that significant.
