Thanks for the clarification. Can you point me to the source for this? MPN's own unit sales figures put DVD unit sale market share at 62.89% for the week ending March 31, which seems about right when compared to the revenue share due to the lower average pricing of DVDs. If NPD puts DVD unit sale at only 37.7% (compared to MPN's 62.89%), then that seems a bit low to be honest, and would only translate to a revenue share of mid 20s for DVD (the average BD cost according to MPN is $20.65 compared to only $10.27 for DVDs). If such a discrepancy exists, then I'm inclined not to include the NPD graphs in the future (which I've only done so starting recently because it has separate UHD numbers).

      Stats:

For the week ending April 7, 2018, here are the stats:

      Percentage of revenue (MPN):
      Blu-ray vs DVD: 42.50% vs 57.50%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $30.73 million
DVD sales total spending: $41.57 million

      These stats available from here:

      Media Play News

      Top 10:

The huge week for Blu-ray last week made way for the Easter sales lull this week, as Blu-ray and DVD revenue both fell back.

As is the case with other Easter lulls, this ones was also light on new releases, with Insidious: The Last Key in 6th and Father Figures in 9th being the only new releases in the top 10. The top selling title was still Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi.

Looking Glass was the only other new release in the top 20, at 17th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: None of this week's new releases (in the top 20) were available on UHD. So out of the top 10, eight titles had UHD editions (all but the two new releases).

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
      1. Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi+
      2. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle+
      3. Thor: Ragnarok+
      4. Justice League+
      5. Coco+
      6. Insidious: The Last Key
      7. Ferdinand+
      8. Pitch Perfect 3+
      9. Father Figures
      10. The Shape of Water+

Blu-ray, Ultra HD Blu-ray Sales Share:

BD sales share for a title is the percentage of disc packages sold for this movie that contained the Blu-ray edition of the film (including combos, and Ultra HD editions). So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

'Insidious: The Last Key' was the only previously mentioned new release that got over the 50% mark, with 50.79%. 'Father Figures' managed 39% while 'Looking Glass' got 31%.

Again not the fairest comparison between two weeks, since we're comparing the Easter lull, one of the quietest weeks of the year, to last year's 'Rogue One'. An "all red" week was all but guaranteed.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $36.96m (down 54.6%), with unit sales down 53.3%.

DVD sales decreased by $18.16m (down 30.4%), with unit sales down 25.5%.

This meant $55.12 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share decreased from 53.12% to 42.50%.

        Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue recovered slightly from the lows of last week (due to the post-Easter lull), and the release of a A-list-ish release in the form of The Greatest Showman helped in the recovery too.

It was actually a week full of new releases in the top 20, with no less than 7 other new releases. Apart from 'The Greatest Showman', the best selling of these was Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay in 4th place.

In 6th place was Outlander: Season Three, and in 10th was Proud Mary.

Outside of the top 10, we have Molly’s Game in 11th, Phantom Thread in 13th, All the Money in the World in 15th and Braven in 16th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Two of this week's new releases (in the top 20) were available on UHD, including top seller 'The Greatest Showman'. The other title was 'Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay', although 'Phantom Thread' has since been released on UHD. So out of the top 10, eight titles had UHD editions.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):

'Molly’s Game' got 58.68%, 'Phantom Thread' got 57.48%, while 'Braven' got 47.41%.

'Outlander: Season Three' got 43.12% and 'All the Money in the World' got 43.02%.

        'Proud Mary' got 37%.

Of the two titles released on UHD, 'The Greatest Showman' had the highest UHD sales share of 6.82%, while 'Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay' got 5.49%.

        DVD: $66.65 million
Another unfair comparison as we're comparing a relatively normal week with last year's pre-Easter bump, but weekly Blu-ray market share prevented an "all red" week in the end.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $14.54m (down 28.5%), with unit sales down 29.0%.

DVD sales decreased by $24.26m (down 36.4%), with unit sales down 35.8%.

This meant $38.8 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share increased from 43.35% to 46.25%.

          Top 10:

A very quiet week in which new releases were light on the ground. The best selling of the new releases, The Commuter, only managed to reach 3rd place on the sales charts.

There were only two other new releases in the entire top 20. Closely behind 'The Commuter' was The Post in 4th place.

The other new release was Deep Blue Sea 2 in 11th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Two out of three of this week's new releases (in the top 20) were available on UHD. Both 'The Commuter' and 'The Post' were available on UHD. UHD did a clean sweep this week, with every title in the top 10 all having UHD editions.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):

'Deep Blue Sea 2' managed 35%.

Of the two titles released on UHD, 'The Commuter' had the higher of the UHD sales share, with 6.50%, while 'The Post' managed 5.49%.

            Top 10:

A few good releases, but none that did terrific business at the (U.S.) box office, and so Blu-ray revenue remained near last week's relative lows.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure was the week's top selling new release and overall top seller on both Blu-ray and DVD, just squeezing past 'The Greatest Showman' to the top spot this week. Maze Runner Trilogy also managed to get a top 10 finish, at 10th.

There were 6 other new releases in the top 20. Den of Thieves in 4th place was the best selling of the rest, just ahead of Hostiles in 5th place.

While it did great in overseas markets and was a critic favourite, Paddington 2 had to settle for 7th place this week on debut.

Forever My Girl was in 11th, while Grease: 40th Anniversary Edition rounded off the new releases (in the top 20) at 17th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Three out of three of this week's seven new releases (in the top 20) were available on UHD, including top seller 'Maze Runner: Death Cure'. The other titles were 'Hostiles' and the 40th anniversary re-release of 'Grease'. So 7 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
            1. Maze Runner: The Death Cure+

Being a re-release, 'Grease' naturally had the best BD sales share, with 86.99% choosing to buy the movie on Blu-ray. The 'Maze Runner Trilogy', being a similar type of release, also did well with 63.38%. The week's actual top seller, 'Maze Runner: The Death Cure', managed 57.95%, just ahead of the 57.87% earned by 'Den of Thieves'.

'Paddington 2' also got above the 50% mark with 50.95%.

'Hostiles' got 43% while 'Forever My Girl' got 30%.

For the UHD releases, 'Grease' managed a very respectable 37.24%, with 'Hostiles' on 9.20% and 'Maze Runner: The Death Cure' on 7.74%.

              Top 10:

Blu-ray and DVD revenue remained largely unchanged compared to the previous week. This is despite five new releases in the top 20, including the week's top seller, Peter Rabbit.

It easily outsold the number two title, and also new release, 12 Strong.

It was then down to 7th for the next new release, Winchester.

Outside of the top 10, Mary and the Witch’s Flower finished in 11th, while the latest in the ''Tremors' series Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell was at 14th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Only one of this week's previously mentioned new releases, 'Peter Rabbit', was made available on UHD. So 6 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

                Blu-ray vs DVD: 45.32% vs 54.68%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $31.80 million

                Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue picked up a little this week while DVD revenue was mostly flat.

The top selling new release for the week, which was also the week's overall top seller, was Fifty Shades Freed. The 3-movie collection box set for the Fifty Shade Trilogy made the combined Blu-ray and DVD chart at 12th place, but failed to find a spot in the Blu-ray only top 20.

Batman Ninja did make the top 20, at 4th, while the 4K re-release of Saving Private Ryan settled for a 13th place finish.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Of the three previously mentioned new releases in the top 20, one was a 4K exclusive ('Saving Private Ryan'), while 'Fifty Shades Freed' did make a UHD edition available. So 8 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
                1. Fifty Shades Freed+
                2. Peter Rabbit+
                3. The Greatest Showman+

'Batman Ninja' beat 'Fifty Shades Freed' in terms of BD sales share, 82.69% vs 58.96%. The previous 'Fifty Shades' movie, released exactly a year ago this week, managed a BD sales share of 58.06%, so basically unchanged.

'Fifty Shades Freed' on UHD managed a sales share of 5.46%, compared to 3% for 'Fifty Shades Darker' a year ago.

For the week ending May 19, 2018, here are the stats:

                  Percentage of revenue (MPN):
                  Blu-ray vs DVD: 54.95% vs 45.05%

                  Top 10:

A big A-list release this week propelled Blu-ray revenue above the $50 million mark, and weekly Blu-ray market share went above 50% as well.

That big release was Black Panther, which easily outsold everything else in its path. As an interesting note, this is the first big Disney releases not to be released with a Blu-ray + DVD edition, with Disney starting the move away from the oldest of the optical disc formats. Disney has still made available a DVD only edition of Black Panther.

There weren't many other new releases this week, which is not at all surprising. Rick and Morty: Season 3 in 7th place was the best selling of the other new releases.

And lastly, in 15th, Samson was the only other new release this week.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Of this week's new releases in the top 20, only 'Black Panther' was made available on UHD. So 7 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):

                      Top 10:

Blu-ray (and DVD) sales fell back down to more "normal" levels, as last week's mega A-list release, 'Black Panther', dropped back in sales following its debut. It was still the week's top seller though, as the actual top selling new release, Red Sparrow, only managed to grab second place (and a very distant second place too, selling 5 times fewer copies than 'Black Panther').

Game Night in 3rd place was another new release, as was The 15:17 to Paris in 8th.

Outside of the top 20, Early Man in 13th and I Kill Giants in 14th were the rest of the new releases.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Only one of this week's new releases, 'Red Sparrow', was made available on UHD. So 8 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

                      9. Peter Rabbit+
                      10. Thor: Ragnarok+

'Red Sparrow' had the highest BD sales share of the previously mentioned new releases, with 61.97%. 'Early Man' got 50%.

None of the rest managed a BD sales share of over 50%, but 'Game Night' and 'I Kill Giants' both managed 48%, with 'The 15:17 to Paris' getting 45%.

'Red Sparrow' did well on UHD, with a UHD sales share of 11.82%.

                      DVD: $44.50 million
'Logan' was released this time last year, and it, along with a few other releases, represented a week that had better releases than this week (the unit sales stats are more indicative of this), despite Black Panther's strong run. But rising weekly Blu-ray market share helped to prevent an "all red" week.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $6.44m (down 17.5%), with unit sales down 19.4%.

DVD sales decreased by $9.7m (down 21.8%), with unit sales down 22.7%.

This meant $16.14 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share increased from 45.27% to 46.60%.

                        Top 10:

It's a quiet week for new releases, and Blu-ray and DVD sales took a relative tumble as a result.

The week's only new release in the top 20 was Annihilation, which only came 2nd in the overall charts, behind the still number one 'Black Panther'.

(It's also worth noting that 'Annihilation', while in a normal release in the American, Canadian and Chinese markets, was a Netflix exclusive everywhere else and has been streaming on the platform since the film's theatrical release plus 17 days)

So as a result, Blu-ray revenue fell to the lowest level since February.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: 'Annihilation' was available on UHD. So 8 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

Blu-ray revenue posted a small recovery from last week's lows, thanks to a couple of new releases, the best selling of which (and also the overall top seller of the week) was the much-maligned A Wrinkle in Time.

In a distant 3rd place was the next new release, Death Wish, while the re-release on Blu-ray of Peter Pan was 4th.

The Hurricane Heist in 7th was the next new release, while Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Complete Series in 10th rounded off the new releases in the top 10.

The 4K re-release of The Incredibles got an 11th place finish.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Three separate titles had UHD editions out of the new releases listed above, including 'A Wrinkle in Time', 'The Hurricane Heist' and of course, the 4K re-release of 'The Incredibles'. So 8 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

Of this week's previously mentioned new releases, 'Avatar: The Last Airbender — The Complete Series' had the best BD sales share, getting 86.08%.

'A Wrinkle in Time' also did well on Blu-ray, getting 71.05%.

'Death Wish' got 57.69%, while 'The Hurricane Heist' got 46%.

For the UHD releases, being a 4K only re-release, 'The Incredibles' got a UHD sales share of 44.48%, while 'The Hurricane Heist' got 7.47%. 'A Wrinkle in Time' got 4%.

This time last week was the week that feature a huge new release, 'Beauty and the Beast' (live action version), and along with the re-release of 'Bambi' on Blu-ray, it helped to push Blu-ray revenue to one of the highest points of 2017. As a result, this week is another "all red week".

Blu-ray sales decreased by $27.57m (down 49.0%), with unit sales down 46.8%.

DVD sales decreased by $18.65m (down 35.7%), with unit sales down 29.1%.

                            Top 10:

Four out of the top six in this week's top 10 were all new releases, which allowed both Blu-ray and DVD revenue to rise compared to last week.

I Can Only Imagine was the week's top seller on Blu-ray and DVD, ahead of the big budget box office disappointment Tomb Raider.

Fifth place was where the next new release, Sherlock Gnomes, placed. Followed closely in 6th place was Love, Simon.

Then it was all the way down in 19th place for the next new release, The Strangers: Prey at Night.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Two out of this week's 5 new releases (in the top 20) had UHD editions, 'Tomb Raider' and 'Love, Simon'. So 7 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
                            1. I Can Only Imagine
                            2. Tomb Raider+

'The Strangers: Prey at Night' had the best of the BD sales shares out of the new releases in the top 20, with 59%. It was followed by 'Tomb Raider' at 57%, 'Love, Simon' at 56% and 'Sherlock Gnomes' at 50%.

The week's top seller 'I Can Only Imagine' managed 40%.

For the UHD releases, 'Tomb Raider' did quite well with 11.41%, while 'Love, Simon' got 5%.

                              Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue and market share dropped for the week ending June 23, compared to the previous week, because of the lighter slate of releases.

The biggest new release for the week, and also the week's overall top seller, was Pacific Rim Uprising. It easily outsold the number two title, and last week's number one, 'I Can Only Imagine'.

It was then all the way down to 6th place for the next new release, Paul, Apostle of Christ.

The other new releases were all out of the top 10, with Dragon Ball Super: Part 4 in 17th and Midnight Sun outside the Blu-ray top 20, but 19th on the combined Blu-ray and DVD chart.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Only 'Pacific Rim Uprising' was available on UHD out of the previously mentioned new releases. So that makes 7 titles out of this week's top 10 that had UHD editions.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
                              1. Pacific Rim Uprising+

                              6. Paul, Apostle of Christ
                              7. Jurassic Park Collection+
                              8. Sherlock Gnomes

Blu-ray, Ultra HD Blu-ray Sales Share:

So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

'Dragon Ball Super: Part 4' had the best BD sales share out of all the new releases, with 73.38%, but 'Pacific Rim Uprising' wasn't too far behind with 71.29%.

'Midnight Sun' managed 40% while 'Paul, Apostle of Christ' got 40%.

'Pacific Rim Uprising' managed a UHD share of 16.53%, the highest of any title this week, which was a good result all around for the sci-fi flick.

The same week a year ago was an even quieter week in terms of new releases (only the documentary 'Life', which finished in 4th place), but this week's Blu-ray and DVD revenue were still down in comparison. Unit sales of Blu-ray was actually up, but revenue down due to average Blu-ray prices dropping (and also the price of 'Life' being higher than your average release because it was a box set).

Blu-ray sales decreased by $1.11m (down 3.8%), with unit sales up 3.7%.

A pretty quiet week in terms of new releases, with only two new releases in the top 20.

The best selling of these new releases was Tyler Perry's Acrimony, but it only managed to secure fourth place.

The other new release didn't even finish in the top 10, and it was Escape Plan 2: Hades in 11th place.

As a result, Blu-ray revenue and market share both fell compared to last week.
