For the week ending April 22, 2023, here are the stats:

Percentage of revenue (MPN):
Blu-ray vs DVD: 38.97% vs 61.03%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $7.26 million
DVD sales total spending: $11.37 million

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue improved slightly, only slightly, compared to last week's horrifying lows. Cocaine Bear was the top-selling new release and top-selling new title overall for the week, handily beating the number two title (and another new release), Magic Mike’s Last Dance.

The 4K release of Rebel Without a Cause was 5th, and outside of the top 20, Marlowe was 12th.

Another 4K release of a classic was in 19th, 12 Angry Men.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Neither "Cocaine Bear" nor "Magic Mike’s Last Dance" had 4K editions. 6 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

Blu-ray, Ultra HD Blu-ray Sales Share:

The BD sales share is the percentage of disc packages sold for that contained the titles's Blu-ray edition (including combos, and Ultra HD editions) for a particular title. So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

"Cocaine Bear" didn't do as well on Blu-ray as expected, with a BD sales share of only 42.89%. "Magic Mike's Last Dance" didn't do too much better, with 39.58%.

Both did better than "Marlowe" with its 27.12%.

None of the other releases had both a 4K and Blu-ray simultaneous release, so no 4K sales share to report.

Ok, for the week ending 6th April 2008, here are the stats:

Blu-ray vs DVD: 4% vs 96% (comparison of top 20 titles by volume)
Blu-ray vs HD DVD: 64% vs 36% (67% vs 33% since inception)

A big comeback for HD DVD for some reason, or perhaps a big drop for Blu-ray (Blu-ray had 8% against DVD last week, compared to only 4% this week).

It's interesting to see the Blu-ray vs DVD and Blu-ray vs HD DVD statistics from 2008. The fluctuation in market shares is worth noting.

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue stayed steady (and still very poor) compared to the previous week, with only a smattering of smaller releases happening this week.

The best-selling new release, and best-seller overall, was Jesus Revolution, selling slightly more copies than Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen - Part One in second place.

The Best Buy exclusive 4K SteelBook release of The Man Who Fell to Earth was 6th, while Police Story III: Supercop was 7th.

Star Trek: Lower Decks - Season 3 was 8th.

Outside of the top 10, Triangle of Sadness was 15th, with His Dark Materials: The Complete Third Season in 18th.

Just having gone through the new releases, I can actually see we did have a good number of them - they just weren't big sellers.

"Triangle of Sadness" managed 66.57%, while "His Dark Materials: The Complete Third Season" got 58.08%.

"Jesus Revolution" had to settle for 36.28%.

On 4K, "Police Story III: Supercop" did the best with a 4K sales share of 73.10%. "Triangle of Sadness" got 43.49% and "Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen - Part One" got 19.67%.

It's getting harder and harder to explain the sea of red you see below. This time last year did have a "better" release in the form of "Moonfall", but a near 35% drop in Blu-ray revenue suggests it's more than just one title being the difference.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $3.95m (down 34.7%), with unit sales down 33.7%.

DVD sales decreased by $5.33m (down 32.3%), with unit sales down 32.4%.

This meant $9.28 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share decreased from 40.80% to 39.92%

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue stayed largely unchanged from previous weeks as 80 for Brady was the top-selling new release (and overall top seller) for the week.

The 4K re-release of Deep Impact was 6th, joined outside of the top 10 by the Best Buy exclusive Disney 100 4K SteelBook (phew, long title) releases of the original Star Wars trilogy, Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, and Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, in 11th, 12th and 13th respectively.

That was it for new releases though.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Only "80 for Brady" wasn't a 4K exclusive release. Only 5 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue rose ever so slightly with 6 new releases in the top 20.

Yellowstone: Season 5, Part 1 was the most popular new release, and the week's overall top-seller. The juggernaut that is the Yellowstone televisual universe was evident here because the box set actually outsold the feature film Knock at the Cabin.

Superman 1978-1987 5-Film Collection on 4K was 6th, just ahead of the 2020 remake of Children of the Corn getting its Blu-ray release - it was 7th.

The Blu-ray version of All Quiet on the Western Front was released following the 4K version a few weeks ago, and it was 13th, and Unwelcome was 14th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Other than the Superman 4K boxset, the only new release with a 4K edition was "Knock at the Cabin". Only 4 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

"Knock at the Cabin" had the best BD sales share of this week's lot of new releases, with 54.57%. "Unwelcome" was next with 39.95%, followed by "Children of the Corn" with 31.07%.

"Yellowstone: Season 5, Part 1" had to settle for 19.73%, but given the show's demographic, this isn't too surprising.

On 4K, "Knock at the Cabin" managed a 4K sales share of 16.44%.

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue continues its slow climb back above $10 million (there used to be a time when $50 million was the benchmark, as a Marvel movie barely made any dent in Blu-ray sales this week. Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania outsold everything else this week, including the second-placed Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre.

Max Fleischer's Superman was 5th, with the In the Line of Duty: I-IV box set in 7th.

The Italian Job gets a 4K release and is the last new release in the top 20.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Only "Max Fleischer's Superman" wasn't made available on 4K (or wasn't a 4K only release). 5 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

On 4K, "Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania" was once again ahead of "Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre", with a 4K sales share of 32.24% compared to 24.96%.
