    Optiarc DVD RW AD7170 A - Problem

Does anyone have any experience with the Optiarc DVD RW AD7170A drive? I have one installed in my computer that has burned 100's of disks over the last 2 years and has worked great until recently. Now when I put a DVD (that I burned with this drive) in the tray it will not recognize it. Sometimes after 5 - 15 minutes it will spin up and work but most of the time I have to reboot and then I only get 1 play before it happens again.

Any ideas or should I just pull the sheet over it and buy a new one.

are you using Imgburn yet? I would look at the filters installed/running before pitching
    the drive

      Thanks for the reply, Chewy.

Yes, I have been using IMGburn for some time. The problem isn't necessarily with the burning process. It won't even read a disk. After closing the tray the disk won't even spin up!

check a bootable cd in it, if that fails you definitely have a hardware failure

        might be dirt

It will read a disk after after/during a reboot...but only once. After that I have to reboot again to make it work.

It's a very strange problem, I would think it would either work or not work. Not work every now and then!

            sounds like a software problem?

post a filter driver load order right after reboot, no disks

For a Wookie you are pretty sharp!!

I have no idea what you are asking for. I did a quick Google search and I think I know what you are looking for. I will do this when I get home and post the results.

              Is this it?

in imgburn under tools is what we need

I used to have to use bustrace but now it's easier to get someone to load imgburn

plus that way there's another convert

                sneaky!

                they will be assimilated

Ok, sorry this took so long but it was a crazy night!!

Anyway, I took different scans. One before I rebooted and the drive was broke. THe second was after the reboot and the drive was working...

Hope you know what you are looking for. (thanks for all the help, by the way)

Do you mean go to the actual folder and delete the all the drivers except the 2 you mentioned?

And, I have no idea how you knew that....The "force" perhaps???

with imgburn LuK is very powerful with the force

highlight the one you want to remove and use the remove button

                        after they are done reboot?

                          Thanks, Chewy!

I assume there is a "remove" button in ImgBurn? I don't remember seeing one, but I wasn't really looking for one either.

I will give it a try after work and post my results!

Ok, I have followed your instructions and removed everything you suggested and rebooted. All of them went away except for (2) and they now say [unknown].

The drive is working better though. It's still slow to respond but it eventually does read the disk and work. It takes about 2-3 minutes for the drive to come ready but I can live with that.

                            I really appreciate your help!
