    The SSD Power Consumption Hoax

Manufacturers tout the power savings of flash-based solid state drives compared to conventional hard drives. True? Check out our notebook battery tests.

very interesting, u get more with 7200 rpm harddisk, obviously ull get more battery time with 5400 rpm drives, new seagate momentus has even lower power requirmemnts.
Seems like as soon you buy somehing, v. 2 comes out 1.5 times as fast!..!

At the moment these SSDs are more of a technical curiosity to me than anything else.

Until they approach the price and capacity of normal HDDs and unless there's some sort of overwhelming advantage I can't see myself going down that route anywhere in the near future.

Interesting indeed though that one of their perceived benefits isn't actually real.
