Toshiba declines to sell HD DVD patents to Taiwan makers, says newspaper

Leading Taiwan-based makers of optical discs have made an attempt to acquire HD DVD patents from Toshiba after Toshiba gave up promotion of the self-developed blue-laser standard in February 2008, but Toshiba has declined to sell, according to the Chinese-language newspaper Economic Daily News (EDN).

Interesting. Toshiba not selling because it has an agreement with Sony not to pursue HD DVD anymore? And why would Taiwanese disc manufacturers want the HD DVD patent?
