Blu-ray propels 'The Dark Knight' to strong early DVD sales

Consumers snapped up 3 million DVDs on Tuesday, when "The Dark Knight" hit shelves in the U.S., Canada and Britain. As much as 25% to 30% -- or 600,000 copies -- were purchased in Blu-ray. That surpasses the previous record set by "Iron Man," which sold 260,000 Blu-ray discs upon its first day of release.

In many ways, Blu-ray is lucky this holiday period because it has some really good movies to rely on. Obviously, the bad luck is the economic situation.

Does that statistic count all the Blockbuster stores and libraries?

Because I'm sure they make up at least half of it if it does

Put out a good hi def movie, put it on a Blu-ray disk (25gb or 50gb) and because it is the latest technology and its around Christmas, people are hooked. (a legal drug dealer)

Sony and the MPAA are not stupid, new Blu-ray blank media factory being built.

Blu-ray is here to stay, its just a matter of time how fast it catches on.

Kmart has a Samsung Blu-ray-ray player for $179. Prices are starting to come down. Maybe there is hope after all.
