Shame the pre-order offer is not available in Australia. The only offer is to buy Windows Vista from today and you'll get a free update to Windows 7.

I noticed that Windows7 Ultimate is missing from the pre-order. Also:

Microsoft will not offer upgrade versions to customers in Europe, forcing them to do clean installs. While customers elsewhere in the world will be able to run a simple upgrade install, preserving their data, settings and programs, Europeans will have to make manual backups and reinstall software after installing the new OS.

This is due to the anti-trust lawsuits that Microsoft lost over in the EU, which forbade them from including IE 8 with Windows 7, and so they had to make separate versions for the EU market.

The question then is why is Apple allowed to bundle Safari with their OS?

simple that lawsuit came when IE was ruling the world, and ppl like opera and others were all jealous, with safari it doesnt hold that big market, firefox got lot of IE market so they not care that much now.

apple even got pass by the very evil way of injecting safari into windows by hidden itunes install. when ppl start shouting, they stoped that but still do it by itunes update, and if ur not gonna check what updates its installing u wont notice a default check on safari.

everyone who can visit microcentre they are offering even cheaper preorder for win7 10$ less then microsoft pre order. u have to get a coupon, then when it releases u can show that coupon to buy the product.

Because they don't have the same potential stranglehold on the market that Microsoft has.

Apple hardware is very much in the minority here in the UK and I'd assume it's similar in most EU countries.

The nice thing is that Microsoft seems to be going to ship the full version with a large discount for those that want to use it as an "upgrade" function (guess you need to have a previous version of Vista) in the EU, that will be cheaper than the current prices for an upgrade in the USA.

The reason for not shipping an upgrade version seems to be that only a clean install with the full disc will secure that no Internet Explorer is left on the computer after the upgrade to Windows 7.

Yeah that'll actually work out better for me.

I'm getting ready to buy a new machine and all PCs sold until the release date will get a free upgrade to Windows 7.

It'll have to be the full version they supply then.
