    like i said here: i cant say cce is that much faster to consider it the better choice

    for the last couple of dvd conversions (episode discs) i did i prefered procoder

      @UncasMS

      I find Procoder 3 very slow with DVD-RB VS CCE SP. I prefer to use Procoder 3 on its own and select my target to be VOB files.

        you will know bests how it feels in your case, art.

        all i wanted is to point out that procoder as well as hcenc may be very similar in terms of speed but that may depend on the system.

        the conversion times i posted refered to a quadcore and they were not too different so let me ask you what cpu are you using and how much does an average conversion take?

          My PC isn't new it is a AMD Athalon X2 64 dual core +4600, 3 gigs of 533 DDR2. I have the 2 drives set like jbobs recomended a few years ago to me:

          Source on drive 1
          work folder on drive1
          output on drive 2

          I use CCE with default settings of 25 and 16 and set it for 2 pass not including the inital pass.

          seems to work for me. Procoder starts out at 1X speed (29.97 fps) or better but slows down to about 65 X a little better than 1/2 speed based on 29.97 fps. I should point out I am using DVD-RB 98.2 but CCE SP is set for a dual a core PC and so is Procoder 3 in some modes but it seems to be slower with converting to mpg. I typically see ~5X speed or 150 fps from CCE on the same source, HCenc gives me about 65 fps a little better than 2X

          Nice comparison you did with the encoders, for the money HCenc is very good, i like the sharper look of CCE vs the smooth look of Procoder 3 which is real good with lower bit rates.
