PS3 3D Games Arrive June 10th, 3D Blu-ray "Before end of the Year"

Sony will release firmware 3.20 for the PS3 on June 10th, and it will include 3D gaming support for three existing games.

The supported games will be WipEout HD, Pain, and Super Stardust HD. Existing owners of the games will get a free update to enable the 3D effect, except for Pain, which will require an additional payment to unlock the 3D feature. For those that want to check out 3D without paying, the demo for Motorstorm 2 will also have a 3D mode.

To enjoy 3D games on the PS3, you'll also need a compatible 3D TV and glasses.

As for 3D Blu-ray support, Sony cannot provide a firm date other than "before the end of the year". 3D Blu-ray players are already available on the market, although 3D Blu-ray movies are not readily available. Some movies are being bundled with hardware and aren't available for general sale, and the first 3D Blu-ray available for general sale could be Disney's A Christmas Carol, to debut November 16th. Rumours also suggest that, with Panasonic's close links to the movie Avatar, they may make the 3D Blu-ray version of the movie available as an exclusive to buyers of Panasonic 3D hardware, and it could be available as soon as August.

PS3 3D games are already available. Apparently, no firmware update is needed this time since the firmware to support 3D games was already rolled out in April. All you have to do is to download the updates to the 3D capable games to enable the 3D mode (if you've purchased them already), or to buy them now from the PS store with the 3D mode included.
