Microsoft has extended the life of Windows XP by allowing downgrade licenses until the year 2020. The previous April 2010 deadline was extended to October 2011, and now extended all the way to January 2020.

The popularity of Windows XP may in large parts be due to the unpopularity of Vista. To counter the uncertainty of users, Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate includes a downgrade license to XP for those still unsure of the new operating system. This has proved popular enough for Microsoft to extend the offer through the entire Windows 7 sales cycle, to January 2020.

Most large businesses are expected to upgrade to Windows 7 in the next year or two, experts predicted.
