Default Free Unlimited Music Downloads - If it's too good to be true ...

A new website promises unlimited DRM-free MP3 downloads for only $25 a month, and is even available now for free for a limited time. Sound too good to be true?

TorrentFreak thinks so (that is it too good to be true, in other words, it's a scam). They've even gone to the trouble for listing 13 reasons as to why ZapTunes might be a scam, although the generous pricing and sensible DRM policy should be enough to alert most people that this is not a RIAA sanctioned service.

Even though the website provides a free signup for a limited time, it still asks for your credit card details, and this is also making users suspicious of the real intentions of ZapTunes.

ZapTunes has gone kaput, cancelling the account of up to 25,000 people who paid $25 per month to download their catalogue of 8 million DRM free songs, which ZapTunes claims is all legal (despite the fact that ZapTunes offered The Beatles songs on their websites months before the historical official deal with Apple).

ZapTunes claims that, even with taking in $625,000 per month, they could not "get to a point of profit", citing their struggle against "numerous DMCA complaints and lawsuits".

But ZapTunes say they will return, as a social music discovery network, but found time to cancel the account of everyone who had signed up.

So the moral of the story again, is that, if it sounds dodgy, it probably is!
