    Processing mp4 with VirtualDub

I'm trying to load mp4 files directly into VirtualDub. I downloaded the mp4 plugin from videohelp-dot-com/tools/VirtualDub and placed the unzipped file ("MP4InputDriver.vdplugin") in VirtualDub\Plugins32. When I open an mp4 file in VirtualDub I don't get an error and I seem to be able to scrub through the file, but the video displayed by VirtualDub is black.

Does anyone know what might be going on?

    I'm running VirtualDub 1.8.8.

    Thanks for any help.

I downloaded and installed x264vfw from SourceForge, but I still get the same thing. Is there a way to check that the correct codecs, etc. are installed?

      Thanks.

Also, I can play the mp4 file fine with GOM Player, so doesn't that say that I already had an mp4 codec on my system?

I take it for granted that you have the latest x264vfw installed.
Looks like a codec conflict. Do you also have Quicktime installed ? The VD MP4 plugin is known to have conflicts with the QT plugin. See here:http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/3...-h264-no-error

I have QuickTime on my system but I don't have a QuickTime plugin in VirtualDub/Plugins32.

Also, I'm confused about the purpose of the x64vfw file. My understanding is that vfw drivers let VirtualDub capture video, but that's not what I'm doing. The mp4 video was downloaded and now I just want to bring it into VirtualDub.

              Thanks

Remove the mp4 plugin and put the QT plugin. Or,remove both and use the Directshow plugin instead.
BTW, can you upload a part of the file so that I can check it whether I am able to play it or not ?
