    Try DVD Flick or FAVC:

DVD Flick is a simple but at the same time powerful DVD Authoring tool. It can take several video files stored on your computer and turn them into a DVD that will play back on your DVD player, Media Center or Home Cinema Set.

A GUI for several different free video tools that takes one or more AVI files and produces a DVD folder ready to be burned to a DVD and played in any regular DVD player

Both support MKV files as input, and will allow you to burn a DVD that works in any standalone DVD player.

Note that you can make Windows 7 play MKV files without going through the conversion process, let me know if you need instructions.

If installing Haali doesn't work, then you might want to try one of the codec packs (I recommend K-Lite Codec Pack Full: http://www.digital-digest.com/softwa...odec_pack.html).

It's a bit like fishing with explosives, but it will get the job done, and as a bonus, also make MKV files work in Windows Media Player. Just make sure you pay attention to every step of the installer, especially in regards to file associations (which player will play which file format).

people usually use MPEG-2(VOB) to burning into DVD
vob is the best format for dvd burning
